Well, I just did some quick tests using the other dforce hair (Kinley Hair), and it takes a while. However, after tweaking some settings I got it to simulate in about 20 seconds, and it still looks great. I'm sure the tweaks would drastically reduce the simulation time for the classic long hair as well. I'm just waiting to see if anyone knows the model used in the angel promos so that I can pick up the model and hair at the same time.
To me she looks a bit like Monique 8 with a different texture. Here's Monique 8 with Olympia 8's textures (with my skin shader settings):
She also looks a bit like their character "Syble" but with some mods.
Thanks, Divamakup. I think you are right. After comparing the eyebrows with the angel promos and Syble, they do look alike.
If you mind sharing, I'm curious what tweaks you made. I get lost on dforce.
kinley hair is really light on resources for me. I expect this one to be 3-5 times heavier than Kinley, but it's still d/ling, so I guess we'll see.
@outrider42:
What I did was halved the following: collission iterations, frames per second multiplier, subframes, and iteration (per Subframe).
@FSMMC Designs:
Indeed, it does take longer than the Kinley hair, but with the tweaks its still much faster and bearable for my patience anyways lol. It took about 12 minutes and 30 seconds for a full simulation. I'm going to do a full render right now.
EDIT: I guess I should have read the instructions, lol! Remember to go into the products simulation settings and click the no transition from base pose icon. The new simulation time I got was only 8 minutes with no tweaks! With the tweaks it only took about 2 minutes.
Wow, after finally getting the huge d/l done and installed. I tried a few scenarios and a couple of scenes and I love this hair. I did a bench test for time with just the figure and hair and it took 5.2 minutes with my GTX 970 which is more than acceptable for me. I do lots of images that require a person to be laying down and for awhile now we haven't had believable hair that worked for these types of poses. I had to hack together a dynamic option that worked well, but the base was always the same till now. i am getting to a point that between this one and Kinley hair, I doubt I will use any other hair product,(till more dforce ones come out, LOL)
I love this hair, but my poor computer does not. I know that someday I'll get to build a computer that can handle it more easily (and then I'll probably overuse it and it'll be in every render I make for months :P), so returning it was never considered. However, I think it could work if I could get my simulation settings just right. At the default settings, DS crashes every time I try to run a simuation with this hair. Would anyone who's used it successfully be willing to share their simulation settings if you're using something other than the defaults?
on a 980ti it takes a few minutes; often two or three but sometimes more. I stop it when I'm happy with it too.
Mary Baker: If you have Iray Preview turned on in your preview window, set it to something else. For me there's about a 50-50 chance that any dforce item will crash during simulation if I leave Iray preview on while the draping simulation runs.
Thanks, Odaa, that's very good to know. I'm sure I've done that a couple of times. I'm getting crashes even without that though, with only the figure and the hair in the scene. I never let the Iray preview run for long anyway, as it seems to bog down DS sometimes. I've got a 980Ti, but I'm on a Mac, so dforce simulations are slow to begin with as it always sees that the NVIDIA drivers for Macs are different and usually slower to be updated. Cloth usually works fine, if slow, and I've done simulated hair with non-dforce hair and weightmapping (some hair prop just don't work, but some do) and it's very slow, but it still runs most of the time. It may be this beautiful hair is just too much for my computer to handle, but I'm still hoping there's some combination of settings that would make it work. I wouldn't mind letting a simulation run for half an hour or more if it had to be that way.
Mine does exactly what Quixotry states, I am sure it is time to upgrade my Nvidia card, however I have not. If there were standard morphs with this hair I would like that, but since there is not, I can not use this item.
To bad, it really is very realistic hair. If you bought it within the last 30 days you can get a refund.
