*sigh* Included HD, again. When DAZ provides an option to not get it, I'll start buying the DOs again.

What on earth are you talking about? You're not getting the figure BECAUSE it comes with the HD? Why? Just don't download it if you don't want it... Passing on a figure because it comes with the HD makes like zero sense.

Because I know that if I buy the figure with the HD and only download the figure, I'll eventually cave in and download the HD as well. I did it with Edward. The only way to avoid it entirely is not to buy at all.

Okay. But I'm curious. What is the reason for not wanting the HD Addon? Does it cause issues with the figure? Issues with Daz itself? (Should I be rethinking my choices about buying the HD Addons?)

I don't have any use for it in my artistic style; I got the free Vicky 7 HD and have hardly ever used it. I don't have a problem with others using it, but I don't see why there can't be an option to get the figure without the addon for the few of us that aren't interested in it.

    Just don't download it!

    Easier said than done...

Not really if you use DIM. The first time it appears in your DIM product downloads click the little triangle in the right hand column and hide the item. You will never be bothered with it again unles you check the "Display Hidden Items" box

  • Here's my first go at a render with Edie. I really like her! Look forward to playing a bit more with her and trying some different combinations out.

Hard NOT to smile at about any version of Edie at 50% or more!

I, like many others here, can't undertand why you can't not download it.

Agreed, not sure what the issue is here, especially to the point of not buying a base character *shrug*

I find the HD thing funny because people have REPEATEDLY complained about Daz releasing characters with an additional HD product.

So Daz releases it together... and gets complaints again.

    Poor Daz. ;)

its a bonus. cant really complain about a bonus..sort of getting upset over a free release. Well, that's not true, is it.
anyway, as stated, there are many ways not to download it.

Also..call DAZ customer service or do a ticket and they can take it out of your account ..gone, bye bye.

To be fair I have seen many MANY people asking for the HD to be added to the base price of a figure, and I've seen only ONE person complain when they do include it. I don't really think you can count one person's comment as "complaints". lol :)

It's nice to get it included free for a short period, especially on an older character.

Thanks again for Altern8 and the swift update :-)

The issue with the dForce Woodland Spirit Outfit should be fixed now or soon, check for updates.

Anyone having issues downloading the textures for the Muse Dress?  It is failing to install from DIM for me. It's a huge file, 602.1mb.

    Thanks.

I just want to clarify something. When I made Edie (and Ollie) I was working from a very specific place of admiration towards artists I enjoyed in my younger years, like Jim Henson, Brian Froud, and many others of their time, who make faeries and otherwise charicatured works of more elder looking otherworldly people. There wasn't an intent to create a realistic "ugly old person".

I love your artistry. About March 19 I bought a 500.00 gift card and spent little bits here and there but when Ollie Pro Bundle came out, your product caused me to invest in other artists who made add-ons and older environments/props that would suit that character.  On March 31 when they offered more Ollie add-ons I spent the rest of my gift card but had to fork out an additional 352.40 because Ollie needed to live in Ollie World. I spent a little here and there on this and thaty and on April 18 bought another Daz Gift card for 500.00 but never spent a cent of it. Now thanks to you I am buying filling the cart with Edie Pro Bundle add-ons and again you are creating sales for other artists because I am buying FOR Edie. I hope you take all the negative comments to heart and stop creating awesome irresitable characters so I can stop spending at Daz and not go broke but don't quit until you make a few more because I can always move out in the shed and rent out the house.  I am 60, will probably look like one of those characters soon and am not offended because you are creating characters for a fantasy world. I wonder if overweight people wqere outraged at George being released?   If Tim Burton characters and Jim Henson's muppets had offspring - they might resemble your characters - okay maybe not, but make more.  You are filling a needed missing niche of unusual, uncanny, novice, memorable characters who are not boring or redundant or the typical fairy/character and or the record brownies are more wrinkled, shorter and and uglier than you are making them ... big grin.

Using the translucency map as the base map. I forgot to adjust a torso setting.

For those who are unhappy because of a perceived "old woman caricature":

To these old eyes Edie is a dead ringer for the late great Margaret Hamilton who played the Wicked Witch of the West in "The Wizard of Oz".

A photo of her without the nose prosthetic:

I kept saying about Ollie how he reminded me a lot of older generation British and Australian men those around the WW1/2 eras like my grandfather and Edie is the same really like you just pointed out here

  • Those of you who purchased the Edie 8 Pro Bundle without getting the extra discount for owning previous Name 8 Pro bundles should now have store credit for the missed discounts.

yes I posted about this early on in the thread and Chohole quickly responded sending it in I also wrote to cc with a pic of the bonus bonus discount and I've been credited actually was more than I thought so it was a pretty good discount so those got the extra bonus but haven't bought she's a real bargin + addingthe at least two add ons for extra discount

  • Ok, time for some sleep. I hope you guys post some renders! :)

Once I purchased her, I downloaded Edie and HD add on first and then left DIM to slowly work through the long list. I popped some hair and clothing from my runtime on her and rendered her using Pro Studio HDR. I didn't spend any real time on setting her up because ... well, I couldn't wait, lol. I'll try harder next time, I promise :-)

wow she looks great still downloading but you've given me so many more ideas she'll make another good mature pinup model too

I mixed Edie with Charlotte and reduced the size of hands and feet and nose. I like her a lot. Some of the lipstick is awfully garish, though. The bright pink I used in the full length render was replaced with a darker toned down selection in the closeup. I needed the Scene Optimizer to render her in GPU.

    looks good

They are designed for illustrations. Not pinups, not photorealism, *illustrations*.

Thank you! What I do is illustrations. I don't *want* them to look like photographs, but not necessarily dialed all the way to flat-out 'Toons. Edie and Ollie are *perfect* for my purposes.

And kudos for the PAs who did the bundle outfits. Every one of them attractive, with decent coverage and *no wandering holes*. Thank you. All of you.

oh I don't know about that I use my older characters as pinup models too both male and female and from what others have posted Edie will be used too as a model by me

  • So far the ugliest character I have ever seen. But that's the purpose of her I guess. Hopefully I don't have to see too much of her.
