Interesting result Barbult.  Perhaps DAZ should look at that file and resubmit to their purchasers!

I mixed Edie with Charlotte and reduced the size of hands and feet and nose. I like her a lot. Some of the lipstick is awfully garish, though. The bright pink I used in the full length render was replaced with a darker toned down selection in the closeup. I needed the Scene Optimizer to render her in GPU.

WOW Gorgeous.  I will push the buy button when I get home tonight.  I hope all the gliches get fixed by then.

    Hi,

Does someone know from where the hair in the Capsces Poses and Expresssions for Edie 8 and Genesis 8 Female promo is coming from ?

It is Evi hair by Biscuits. It is a great, fun hairstyle.

Also having issues with Woodland Spirit outfit.  I installed it through DS and can load the meshes, but the textures seem to be a problem.  This is how it loads, and if I try to use the materials it comes with, it stays this way.  Hope this helps resolve some issues with it.  Really like this outfit :)

I installed through Daz Connect and all the JPEG texture files are 0 bytes.

Similar issue here buit from the zip file - all of the textures give an error during unzipping.

Ah, just tried my downloaded zip, YUP error issues with the textures!  WinZip is set up to display the thumbnails and it's doing that and then this appeared when I tried to open one up with Irfanview from the zip folder.  Never had this happen before.....

    See the attachement...

Also, would it be possible to see a render of Edie mixed with Monique, please? Asking for a friend, hehe.

I started doing a quick render for you, and then I got more interested in this as it creates some wonderful characters and it ended up at several quick renders.  Default iray lights, 3 min renders, changes in 20% intervals of Monique and Edie, then did 100% of each and switched skins.  Hopefully the attached images will keep their file names so that you can see the different blended % of each.

I guess I feel weird about Edie. It seems strange to me that the first truly older female base is sort of a caricature and portrayed as an object of humor. I doubt it’s intended to be intentionally awkward but it seems a bit... uncomfortable to me.

Those were exactly my feelings when I saw her. An old woman, automatically portrayed as a hag and a creature of fantasy (as if old women don't exist in reality!). I like her a lot and will probably end up buying her at some point, but I'm just not wildly keen on what's been done with her. It's reminds me of when Monique 6 was portrayed as a voodoo queen when she was launched.

Ollie 8 was protrayed no differently, with strange toonish hair, costumes perfect for fantasy and toon renders, and highly stylized additional characters. At least the Josh Crocket "Etta" was an addon instead of in the pro bundle. As much as I love Glumgurgle, being a fan of LOTR, I'm glad the "counterpart" wasn't in the Edie bundle as I'm far less likely to use her. Both figures are caricatures. Both bundles include unrealistic hair products. Both bundles include very specific costumes. Both bundles include one fantasy character and one old character. Both bundles include fantasy inspired poses. If anything, the Edie Pro bundle is "less so" than Ollie's with one hair that could be used for more realistic scenes, and clothing that can be kitbashed into many different scene genres. I think it would be really hard to use, for example, the House Brownie outfit as a contemporary clothing choice, beyond a Halloween costume!

Personally, I was excited when I saw Edie, and delighted with the clothing included. I can hardly wait to dial a bit of her into other characters, as I've done with Ollie. And as an old lady myself, I wasn't the tiniest bit offended at the theme of the bundle.

I just want to clarify something. When I made Edie (and Ollie) I was working from a very specific place of admiration towards artists I enjoyed in my younger years, like Jim Henson, Brian Froud, and many others of their time, who make faeries and otherwise charicatured works of more elder looking otherworldly people. There wasn't an intent to create a realistic "ugly old person".

I love Brian Froud's characters. And The Dark Crystal is one of my all time favorite movies. You've done a wonderful job of capturing that essence. Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I really hope we'll see more of such work from you in the future.

I think you did an absolutely amazing job with both figures - the morphs mix well with other morphs and add an uniqueness that's refreshing :)

Does this also include the issue with the price increasing if you use the PlatClub coupon ($6 discount) and then add freebies?

Edie and Ollie belonged to the few, very few bundles I didn't hesitate for a second to buy. These are excellent figures!

A render of Edie in Carrara, with all the compromises that that entails.  Mix 70% Edie with 30% Alexandra.  EDIT - I changed the background

    Edie & Ollie's Daughter

Just playing with various morphs to see what she adds to the gene pool. Definitely a fun addition. Dottie for Edie skin, but I did a quick unfinished render on my slow laptop and  tried to take away some of the grain in post on my iPad so this is not really representatial of the skin. I was more about creating fun morphs.

No, that was just for people who weren't getting the discount for previous Name 8 Pro bundles. The coupon issue is a known thing, and you will need to open a ticket for that (set the Sales Support Issue to PC coupon).

She looks beautiful in every single one~ I have Monique 8, and seeing these have solidified my choice to purchase Edie for sure. (and Ollie, when he goes on sale)

I don't think I've been this happy -or impressed- with a female character bundle in a long time. @MallenLane, you work miracles here, haha!

  • Just wanted to say thank you to everyone at Daz and to you Richard for getting the problem with the discount firgured out.  When I cheched the site this morning and saw Edie I had to get her and was one of the ones that missed out on the discount. Read through this thread some now that I'm back from work and got a bit dissapointed that I had missed the discount, but then I checked my store credit page and the missing disscount has already been refunder to me.

Thanks again, and I can't wait to play around with her and the great extra bundles I got for free!

Both of these are Edie 8 at 100%. The pink Edie with the Aiko 7 skin. She's adorable no matter what and is quickly becoming one of my favorites!

Just one question, is the "pointy elfy" ear morph independent of the head morph?

A great-looking character, and I can definitely see the Henson/Froud influence in her design. I'll have to go for just the character alone for now, though, I can't arm-wrestle the bundle deal down to a cart $$$ I can actually afford (and I don't think I qualify for the banner discount).

Stunning. May I ask what light you have used, her skin looks radiant. If she was in the store I would hit the buy button asap. Just outstanding work.

*sigh* Included HD, again. When DAZ provides an option to not get it, I'll start buying the DOs again.

What on earth are you talking about? You're not getting the figure BECAUSE it comes with the HD? Why? Just don't download it if you don't want it... Passing on a figure because it comes with the HD makes like zero sense.

Because I know that if I buy the figure with the HD and only download the figure, I'll eventually cave in and download the HD as well. I did it with Edward. The only way to avoid it entirely is not to buy at all.

Okay. But I'm curious. What is the reason for not wanting the HD Addon? Does it cause issues with the figure? Issues with Daz itself? (Should I be rethinking my choices about buying the HD Addons?)

I don't have any use for it in my artistic style; I got the free Vicky 7 HD and have hardly ever used it. I don't have a problem with others using it, but I don't see why there can't be an option to get the figure without the addon for the few of us that aren't interested in it.

    Just don't download it!
