Here are all 9 Edie related characters. I think this is the largest release of characters I've seen for one new DAZ figure (I'm counting the HD and the grandmother in that count).

Grrr, with Edie, Etta, and Grandmother my cart is $47.46 (Plat club) but when I add the free bonus packs it goes up in price!

Since you say "Plat club", did you use the PC coupon on that cart? If so, that the usual "PC coupon does not work well with bonus free items" problem.

Yes I used the code which ends in 'PlatClub' (the other one doesn't work on new items). I wouldn't have expected some of my discount to be lost on free items (even if those free items are worth a LOT more than the discount list). Looks like I'll bite the bullet.

*sigh* Included HD, again. When DAZ provides an option to not get it, I'll start buying the DOs again.

What on earth are you talking about? You're not getting the figure BECAUSE it comes with the HD? Why? Just don't download it if you don't want it... Passing on a figure because it comes with the HD makes like zero sense.

Because I know that if I buy the figure with the HD and only download the figure, I'll eventually cave in and download the HD as well. I did it with Edward. The only way to avoid it entirely is not to buy at all.

Okay. But I'm curious. What is the reason for not wanting the HD Addon? Does it cause issues with the figure? Issues with Daz itself? (Should I be rethinking my choices about buying the HD Addons?)

I don't have any use for it in my artistic style; I got the free Vicky 7 HD and have hardly ever used it. I don't have a problem with others using it, but I don't see why there can't be an option to get the figure without the addon for the few of us that aren't interested in it.

OMG! I love love love Edie! Definitely getting the pro bundle . Problem is I have so many of the Genesis 3 characters, I don't know what free bundles to get anymore. I wish they were including the men..

I wish they included other bundles like they did one time, like the nerd or restaurant bundle... I own all the bundles except maybe one or two items from a few...

Yeah, it's a great incentive if you're soemone who doesn't buy a lot, but I'm at the point where if I don't actually own the Pro bundle then I usually own everything in it.  Fortunately the V4 3D bundle had 3 items I didn't own (as well as some fairly useless unimesh fits) and I was still missing one pose set and a hair from the Tween Julie Pro bundle, so I can get a few free items this time around.  Next time, though, I'm going to be out of luck unless they expand the bundle options.

That's a known problem with the store software, unfortunately. You can either save the coupon for another order, or purchase it like that and open a support ticket so that DAZ refunds you the difference.

Its quite interesting how Daz is pitching this character. Even the 20% banner makes the pitch for using her mixed with other characters.

"Not only is she a very unique character in the Genesis 8 family, but so many of our render artists have found that mixing her unique elements and 'imperfections' in with some of their other, favorite characters brings a level of realism to them that has proven truly impressive."

I don't think I've seen them do this before. Its a smart strategy. Though Edie alone can be toony, she doesn't have to be. She offers flexibility and options, and that is what many people look for in 3D. Showing this with 23 promos will no doubt increase sales as people who might not think much of her alone can still see the value of adding her "DNA" to their runtime.

Another thing I noticed is how many add on items there are today. I count 20 add on items for Edie. Victoria 8 didn't get that many! On one hand, that's pretty cool and they can all be part of the intro discount. But on the other hand that might overwhelm some who can't afford to buy them all. At least the offer stands for a week or two so customers have a chance to take advantage of it.

Also, including HD on this character is great. That needs to become a thing with more DOs. Personally, I believe "HD" is going to have to become standard practice some day and open to all users for import/export. It can't remain walled off forever. But that's another topic.

I just want to clarify something. When I made Edie (and Ollie) I was working from a very specific place of admiration towards artists I enjoyed in my younger years, like Jim Henson, Brian Froud, and many others of their time, who make faeries and otherwise charicatured works of more elder looking otherworldly people. There wasn't an intent to create a realistic "ugly old person".

@MallenLane - You did a great job and I love both characters.  Some of us prefer "...otherwise charicatured..." content.  Thank you.  Immediate purchase for me.

  • Yeah, she looks great. However, I'm not sure I'll ever render her, but It's a good deal and I'm thinking about Genesis 2 again... So getting Pro bundles that I didn't have is a good thing.

Bethany 7 gave us sexy that wasn't waif-y. That's body shape diversity that I am more interested in...  but I added Raziel/Silver's Evie figure just in case I want to change my mind.

For as much griping as there was, I'll most likely use more of Penny 8 than I'll use of Evie. And I'll still buy the heck out of Thorne-style waifs.

And when else would you promote crones and hags? This is the perfect time (besides October) to get action on witches and hags. Maybe we need sexy Evie 8 lingerie or bikinis?

I can't figure out how I got a 44% discount for the Pro Bundle That's an odd number since the discounts were all even numbers, right?  Course I'm awful at math.

I got Teen Josie 6 and Belle 6 bundles for my freebies.  Had whole bundles and then bits and pieces of lots of the other Gen3 ones and thought I could use a couple 'teen' looking kids even if they are Gen2.

I absolutely adore Ollie and Edie. I've spent several hours today trying to get the best combination of prices and discounts with my Platinum Club vouchers, lol. Thank you so much for creating these characters. I'm currenlty doing my first head and shoulders shot and she's lovely with such soul in her eyes. The way I've set her up for this, I can imagine her chatting away to Paddington Bear smiley

Ollie is becomig my most used male character. If he's not used alone, he's in the mix.

She's wonderful! Just what I was hoping for. And the addon characters do a good job of covering a lot of different bases. Young, old, evil, rather sweet, all sorts of directions to take with her.

Interesting that with Ollie we got gnomes and goblins, whereas with Edie we get a wider range of ages. I'd have appreciated an old geezer addon for Ollie.

It's why I passed on the mature texture packs... Ollie deserves the same love but without a matching one for him ... doesn't work for me.  I really like Josh's release but again, not for Ollie so no go.  I got the Starter Bundle as I like the hair allot and of course Caps poses are always devine as well as that dress... cute and well made.

Oh and not sure if anyone ran into this issue but the dForce Woodland Spirit Outfit that came with the bundle, it downloads but refuses to install.  I've deleted the package two times and tried again and again and still the same "Install Failed" notice!  sad

It's a temporary free adition for buying it during the initial promo period, it's not costing you anything by being added to the bundle.  And for me, it's definitely a reason to go ahead and get the bundle because of how much they cost normally.

Dicount multiply, ie you apply the first one, then the second one on the remainder, on so on.

So for example if you have 30% intro discount and 30% PC discount, you pay 70% of (70% of total price), so 49% of total price, so your discount is 51% off.

In your case you had 30% off for buying 2 add-ons, then 20% off for the banner. So you pay 0.8 * 0.7 * price = 0.56 * price, which means 44% off the price.

Congratulations @mallenlane ! You did a wonderful job with both of them. Ollie is in my runtime and Edie will be soon too! Love these characters and the add ons. DAZ and the PAs did a marvelous job on these.

I know what ya mean. I just bought a 4 bay external and 4 4tb 7200 rpm drives to go in it to hold all this stuff. LOL Wanted to go with 6tb drives, but 4tb was the price sweet spot ;).

I agree. Nice to see some quirky original characters. Out of curiosity I tried to do a similar character with Zevo's Aging Morphs but Edie definitely has more personality! And, of course her shape can be added to others without necessarily making her old. Thanks for coming up with something original and fun! laugh

right away I saw the deal about using the character as add for younger characters ...
It would be great to have older clothing styles, and a lot of older skin packages.

This deal does have much needed older skins. Are there any skin rtexture packages based on older skins? for G8? or even G3.
not so much characters, but just the skins. or the ability to create older looking skin.

  • Oops, I forgot to put that last pro bundle I don't already own in the cart.  Oh well, there is probably a reason I don't already own it ;)

G3 had Opal by Saiyaness, but that's a complete character. Very good tho. I used her quite a few times :). You can't go wrong with any Saiyaness character. They're all good ;).

For those who are unhappy because of a perceived "old woman caricature":

To these old eyes Edie is a dead ringer for the late great Margaret Hamilton who played the Wicked Witch of the West in "The Wizard of Oz".

A photo of her without the nose prosthetic:
