Tane The Old Deer for Daz Horse 2

I just bought this product and had to say I'm so thankful someone made a new animal based on the DAZ Horse 2!  It looks fantastic as a deer, with all the right proportions, etc, but when I started playing with the morphs from the other Horse2 packages I bought, I just had to share how happy I was.  I mixed it with the RawArt Toy Pony, all the different horse breeds and Lama, and even the Monster from Hell Horse and it was like morphing a new creature which made me really happy!  *Plus every pose package I used with it looked excellent!  I was just amazed at how smooth it transitioned everything.

I think we need some more animals based on the base animal packages.  At least the vendors can know they'll have one for-sure sale.  ;)   So, yes, I *love this deer and wanted to let everyone know it lol!

*PS - I just mixed it with the donkey and got a pygmy deer - *so adorable!

I loved him on sight, but he's definitely a want not a need here at the moment and so not in the budget right now. I do hope he does well.

I've been saying for a long time that we need a Genesis 1 like animal that can morph into many animals, from dogs to cats to rabbits to lions to fantasy animals with a ton of morph dials so we can go crazy...

Good to hear the positives on him. I wasn't to impressed with the promos as I have a quality deer model from a game I worked on, but it's nice to see the effort and I am impressed they were able to get that nice looking of a deer from the horse2 mesh. I hope he does well and I'll probably pick him up to show my support

This model looks more like a Sika deer than the american native breeds. Anyone come up with a LAMH preset yet?

i was so thrilled to see the old deer--well named, too!--appear in the store.

DeepSea moves in mysterious ways, but always does wonderful work that's very character-first.

i'm on the other side of the deer fence from FMSC, though.  i loved the promos.  because tane looked like a character to me, not-for-closeup maybe, as per the advisory, but like a real deer, an old deer who's been around the woods a few times.  there's a depth that DeepSea brings to the work--as usual--that feels a lot more substantial to me than just 'modeling'.

i've met old deer in the woods before.  this character makes me believe DeepSea has, too.

It comes with a LAMH preset but the author said on an animals as large as a deer anything other than sparse coverage intended for silohuette renders a densely furred LAMH preset overwhelms their computer so they made a sparse LAMH.

It looks great. Was going to buy it but then went through this process: oh requires Horse 2 which I don't have > oh wait horse 2 is in fast grab > looks at related products, wait what is this iray presets product? > crap Horse 2 isn't iray and for some reason the iray presets isn't on a discount > wishlist for a future date I guess.

The Iray presets are almost completely unnecessary. The horse looks fine for many purposes with an auto-conversion.

The BIG benefit of the Iray presets is an included bump and Normal map -- the regular Daz Horse 2 materials don't include any (which has always made me go wuuh)

I don't think it bothers me so much that an older product produced for the 3Delight render engine doesn't have the maps that are so essential for great looking objects in Iray. But it certainly "tweaked my chain" that no one bothered to create them for the Centaur 7 Pro bundles.

    Anyway…

I don't see why one would need the Daz Horse "iray presets product" for the deer. So @Comets only needs to buy the horse now. The Pro bundle is a better deal, but getting just the horse is sufficient for now, if money is too tight for the bundle.

However, @Comets, if you're looking at the IDG Iray Essentials - Daz Horse 2 and Centaur 7, you will need the horse textures that are only available with the Pro bundle. The presets use the materials for the White horse to compensate for the lack of bump maps and normal maps. (If you are as new as your low post implies, you may not know what those are yet. Don't worry, you don't need to know at this point.)

The DA Horse 2 Iray Material Presets, on the other hand, not only converts the materials to Iray, but also includes a number of materials created by DA. (Three, I think, but I stupidly passed on it when it was released because I had just purchased the Iray Essentials, linked above. Love the one, just wish I had both!)

And welcome to the wonderful world of 3D Art and dimininshing cash reserves.

ETA: Missed the link to the DA product. Oops. Added.

Thank you for the input, appreciate it, and yep I'm definitely new.

I intend to buy this product as the artist has done a brilliant job with it and I can envision a number of renders using it. Going to have to wait now because Daz got me with the flash sale and I have to pick my battles ;p

    LOL…

I hope you do a better job of it than I have. Best of luck.

No normal map doesn't surprise me for a pre-Iray product, but no bump map? Horse 2 is not that old....

I believe the materials were said to have been done by cwrw (?, something like that) who did a bumpless set for the original MilHorse, so it was obviously her style.

Yes, I was disappointed by the Horse 2 as it renders so flat. On the DAZ Cow I used one of the DAZ Original JGreenless iRay suede shaders and it was an improvement for a 20 year old model but the cow was obscured by a lot of shade.

Somewhat derailing the topic, but now I'm wondering how nicely Daz Horse 2 would render with the bump maps from Iray... in 3DL.

    Hmm

  • Just messing about a bit

Deer + draft horse + unicorn leg fur (recolored). and a horse amror and pose.

Now I need reindeer antler :)

Wow, that does look very nice!

Bump map does look nice in 3dl I think, but I’m so sick of 3dl I don’t have the energy to make a decent render.

I wanted to thank you first for supporting Tane

I don't use LAMH preset. All my work use Zbrush. Fur has been create with zbrush's Fibermesh. I try a new way to use it with a light mesh. Just to create an Iray rendering more reel. Tane is a first character created in this way. Texture set was made with my own shooting photographic set

I'm sorry for my bas English I'm French.

    All the best
