What is the point of "Keep me logged in?"

PtropePtrope Posts: 696

The site still has timeouts, and it's not smart enough to return the user to their location if they have to log in - it takes us to our account page, and then we have to search for what we camne to from a link.

This is simply bad site design. And it's been going on for years, no matter what anyone seems to say about it.

I want this site, as with so many other e-commerce sites, to work with my browser! My credentials are saved for a reason, so I can come to the site and be logged in automatically, not so I can look at a page and then find out I can't add anything to my cart or make a comment until I log in and then swim back upstream to where I already was.

Sorry to vent, but jeezus, this has been going on for years and all that ever happens on this site is they make it easier to add their own sales to it. It's user-unfriendly in the extreme, the documentation area is crap, and the search engine couldn't find its way out of a bowl with a map. And because of the Daz business model, there's not really any alternative, no threat behind, "Well, just don't use it if you don't like it." We either have to use it, or we need to have a different hobby.

And I think you guys are far too aware of that.

..the mobile app is even worse at randomly logging one out.

yeah, it has become a real pain lately, logging you in, logging you out, logging you in, etc

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 41,851

...always have to sign back in manually on the mobile app.

Bugs me the most when it lets me open a few tabs before logging me out - guess I'm too fast LOL

Then, as said above, you have to refind where you were (as #latest post has changed before you read it).

I've got one word for DAZ: xenForo

It's powered my board for nearly three years now and I could not be happier.  Incidentally, HiveWire3D uses it, too.

For an immediate solution, I recommend removing whatever bookmark you've got saved for the current forum and replacing it with your account page.  You can click on the forum from there.

I'm logged out with unfailing regularity every 2 days, but one thing I've noticed is that during major sales, that changes to about once a week. During MM, I think I had to log in 4 or 5 times during the entire month, instead of 15+ times.

I've heard all the reasons given for the login issue - random issue, too hard to pin down, etc - and none of them convince me. I rarely visit Rendo these days - maybe once every six months, but I've never had to relog there in ten years or more.

I think the checkbox should be labelled "Keep Logging Me Out". Problem fixed! wink

I'll try that, thanks. I was told by Daz to start at the store page, but it is laggy and slow to load, so I like skipping it when I can, especially if i just want to check the forums.

Let me add, what is the point of the tick mark by the user icon at the top right? It's always there whether I am logged in or not. My standard procedure in the store now is to first look at the freestuff, if it shows me the bus stop I know I'm not logged in.

For me, I stay logged in seemingly forever UNLESS I try logging in from a different computer. Then it makes me log in again. When I go back to my first computer, makes me log in there. So if I stay on one machine I never have to manually log in. Can't fathom why my experience would be so different from what others are seeing.

Even with keep me logged in, I have to relog in quite often when I visit Daz.  It seems kinda random how long I stay logged in.  With that other site its forever logged in.  I don't have to relog in so much its annoying me or anything.  Good old Amazon makes me verify a bit more so I'm okay with it.

I often feel that there's an evil genius AI behind the login scripting - it generally will sign me out the time I drop by and want to POST something instead of browsing... All kidding aside, its really annoying....

It only logs me out only after I complete a purchase and then go back to the forums after that purchase, then when going to the forums after the purchase it auto-logs me back up. I think because I have checked 'Keep Me Logged In"

I'm using whatever the latest Chrome is.

I had to log back in to post this reply... There is absolutely no point to "Keep me logged in".

    None.

I've followed every suggestion as to how to avoid getting logged out, and it just doesn't work.

Its really annoying and it has been this way for years, not just lately.

On the plus side, it keeps me from posting as often as I used to, so in a way it serves a greater purpose.

I'm sure it's because the login cookie expires. It's really there for safety. .When it says keep me logged in, it's not forever. Just till the cookie crumbles!

It isn't, however, a universal experience - for the most part (famous last words) I do stay logged in. It may not matter, but usually I go to www.daz3d.com and then on to the forum rather than direct to the forum.

Good to know I'm not the only one frustrated by this. I thought it might've been some of my addons doing it but I guess not.

Another one (possibly related?) I can't quite get is that I can never quite predict which page I'll be plopped onto after I log in (or back in) — I've tried always logging out from the store front page, but it doesn't seem to make much difference. At random intervals, I log in and find myself on my account page, one of the minor sale pages (not one of the major event things, usually Fastgrab), occasionally the page I last logged out from if it wasn't the front page... it's downright weird. Sometimes I even click on one of the My Account menu links and go to the site front page. Still logged in.

Happy to hear it's not just me, it's been driving me crazy with all the constant logging in and the "we're signing you out" while I'm busy reading the forums.

And that seems to be the issue, at least for me. I want/need to bypass the main site as it loads very slow and hangs while it loads (swirlies) which is why I bookmark the forums and get instant access. I tried the bookmarked account page idea instead, but that didn't help either

At least you're allowed numbers, upper/lower case/symbols for your passwords, unlike the idiotic 8-20 mandated numbers letter that other websites have...Looking at YOU government/non-commerce websites! But yeah, the search function/login crap is an abysmal mess!

What mobile app? Does Daz have a mobile app? Or do you just mean the mobile internet browser?

....probably the browser which is the default Android System WebView.

Still annoying as the "Signing Out" message does come from Daz, not the browser.

I thought it was just me that was getting the random sign out. I have an older smartphone and I figured that was the reason. I don't feel so bad now.

I honestly don't know why it has to tell you to please wait because it is signing you out, it is beyond irritating

With how frequent the store/forum signs me in/out , I feel like someone has access to my account somewhere.
