Walmart Refused to sell me my Prints!
I live in rural Georgia and Walmart refused to print my last picture, Be Mine. She had been edited slightly and I made the pupils round instead of slit to give her a softer look. I also made a small render with the background turned red and a sight change in lighting. I had despeckled and the reshapened and done some minor things in photoshop. I have a friend who likes to say, "Not today, Satan!", the little red print was for her. I went in, no one was in the photo department as usual. I put the pictures in and got blank pick-up slips. Then I shopped for my daughter, checked, waited, checked waited, put my stuff in the car, waited. No one appeared. I ran down the lady who printed my last stuff to buy it as it had printed. She called a manager, waited 30 mins to hear they couldn't sell me prints of my art. She said she would take them to the back to shred. I said for her to please rip them in front of me so I know if I can't have them no one else will either. She did. By the time I got to customer service, I stopped in to tell the lady I'd never use Walmart's photocenter for anything ever again. I went to Walgreen's. The lady saw the art and laughed, she had no problem printing it for me. They were having a sale, the paper quality was better and in the end I saved money and got a nicer print. I am still ticked. I have girls and I have never asked to print something I didn't intend to hang on a wall. This was what I thought would be fine in my livingroom. I never thought it was cheese. I just want to smash someone's face right now, still. It hurts to see your work ripped up. I better hang it so I stop fuming.

I stopped using walmart for prints. They never seem to care. I usually use Target, better paper there too. And they actually give a rip about doing their job. I use walmart for other things, just not prints.
..I've only set foot in a Walmart once and that was because I was with someone who went shopping there.
That was once too many. All I can say is those scary photo galleries and videos you see online are spot on.
For about half a second I thought about dressing my models like nuns from now on. Then I thought naw, I'll do my thing and just never print anything at Walmart. There might be a few items I want to get at Walmart, but I am going to look around town harder for other places to buy things from. Everytime I get mad, I spend less and less there. My daughter is on a limited budget so I can't say, "hey go pay more for your stuff over there" on certain things.
I use walgreens sometimes , But I print my own images mostly, unless its poster board art, then I go to a local print shop where the guys there usually drool over some of my pin up art lol ... Then I'll have a bunch printed off all at once. like I did for high school drama club for a play they were putting on this easter.
I'm like KK I don't go to Walmart for anything...ewww disgusting! I either order from wayfare or amazon and get it the next day with free prime shipping, or I'll go to a store that specializes in the stuff I am looking for like office supplies, groceries or hardware., though I do use Sam's club for my bulk paper goods which is kind of like Walmart.
This is hilarious. Did this WalMart have images of far more scantily-clad women in the lingerie section? Because I bet they did.
Just checked Your picture, to see what this was all about... and I have to say, that I am happy to be sure that I will never encounter a problem like that here in germany. And definately wouldn't with a picture like Yours, 'cause it is not only really nice, but shows a lot less skin than many magazines available at shops, where they are laying around for everyone to see - even children.
The bank a check is drafted from has to cash a check, even if you don't have an account with the bank it's drafted on. As far as WalMart, I've never gotten them to cash any 3rd party check I've presented to them ever, even with a high credit rating & valid ID.
My local WalMart print good prints on good quality paper, better than Walgreens, which turns out yellow. The WalMart here would only refuse to print a picture like 'Be Mine' of the OP's post if I was exceptionally rude to the WalMart staff.
Walgreens print quality is amazing. I've printed stuff off the Internet there before and it looks like it was taken with a film camera. (and it was maybe SVGA [800x600] at 6"x4"). I visit San Francisco every year, and live in an area where I'm not really sure I'm safe, so I just save up my print jobs and get 30-50 prints made when I go on vacation.
Did they say why they couldn't sell you your prints? We've assumed they were too risque, but do you think it could have been because they thought it was a rip of professional work?
I wasn't rude to the staff. A different girl printed my a better fairy pic with no problem in this Walmart. I had my husband's vaction photos done there and some blowups for the wall. I thought at first maybe they thought I didn't do the work. I didn't put warnings on my work for any of the Galleries I put them in. I didn't think it was questionable at all. But the manager they called in to verify it couldn't be sold to me looked pretty tough herself and there was a man with her, maybe in training? I just wanted the value removed from the work before they took it away so I asked that it be torn where I could see it destroyed. Under the circumstances, that seemed to be a reasonable request. I thanked them for tearing it before it left my sight. I did say if my art couldn't hang on my wall, I didn't want anyone else to have it. That's not rude, that's true. I calmly asked what was wrong with it. I was calm when they tore it up at my request since they claimed the FEDs wouldn't allow it to be sold. They tried telling me it was a Federal rule, not just Walmart. The lady at Walgreen's said Walmart was funny that way here. I think perhaps it was more to do with the red eyes than T&A. Yeah, looks like I asked the THE CHURCH LADY for it. Ooops, its fine for my wall and my kids. Yeah, I never expected this to happen when I wanted some prints of my work. But some places are backwards, some people are in a hurry to do these types of things to people they assume God doesn't love and they are the self-appointed experts on who exactly that is, to be sure. But I was not rude, I did not think it was rude to tell the woman at customer service that a manager was called and verified the decision and that I just would never use their photocenter for anything. If this is Walmart rule, they have a right to know my opinion. I bothered to tell them why I won't use them again. If they need to reveiw the standards fine, if they'd rather not print things for me or people like me, that is fine too. Its their machine and I won't waste my time with them again.
I must say I loved my local Walgreen's and the paper is glossier and colors really pop. I guess something silly had to happen to get me to my Walgreen's but I'm really glad I found a better staff to do this kind thing. They were wonderful.
Once upon a time I worked at a Walmart. It was hectic and crazy, but I didn't mind too much. I did a bit of everything, from electronics to toys to service desk. I was also promoted to customer service manager and had to deal with lots of angry people. I was usually pretty good at defusing the situation, and I actually kind of liked it sometimes. My cashiers generally liked me, because I tried to accommodate everybody's weird preferences (one liked odd numbered registers, another express, another wants a fan, another wants breaks at certain times, ect, you'd be amazed at how specific some people were) and I was fast at answering calls. If they were good, I'd give them priority for their preference, an incentive to work and be nice! Anyway, this is Walmart's policy on content, it is rather broad and also kind of vague, as the definition of what is not appropriate can wildly vary:
C. Prohibited Content
You agree that you will not make available Content in connection with the Walmart Sites that:
If was there, I'd laugh about it if a photo lab person brought that picture to me. And trust me...I've seen some weird things in Walmart! Where I worked, this wouldn't be a problem at all, so if they didn't want to sell this because they thought it was naughty or whatever, that's pretty silly and petty. The only time an issue would come up for us is when people suspected copyrights were involved. But this is also hard to prove, with no stamp on the picture, there is no reason to believe this is a copyrighted work. But either way, if somebody did think it was copyright, they would have said so.
If they thought it was a copyright, it may have been because it is computer generated. This is a very niche field, and so they they may have thought it was stolen because they have no idea how you could have made it, I guarantee they have never heard of this Daz Studio. In that case, having a mobile device with access to your Daz page handy would handle the question of copyright. But the thing here is that they did not ASK for a copyright. That they did not ask makes it clear to me that they refused your image for a different reason. You naughty devil worshipper you! Maybe they would think Daz Studio is by devil worshipping cultist. Just don't show them a scantily clad Vicky in a temple with a sword. It would be funny if you showed the the Daz Store on a day they had some silly sexy themed store feature, LOL.
I took a look at the picture, and I think I get why whoever got their knickers in a twist.
There's a bit of decor low on the bodysuit that at first glance looks more like a cutout (with the lighting, it's very close to the same tone as the skin) that's placed uncomfortably low for some folks.
Now, it doesn't take more than a serious look to realize that it's decor on the bodysuit and not a cutout showing skin, but some folks don't like to think that hard once they've made a snap judgement.
Arent' there numerous places to buy prints online? I wouldn't even think to go to walmart to buy a print.
...they probably wouldn't touch the renders of the Merida (Brave) character I created. The late Wancow, when he saw the results, jokingly asked if I pinched the mesh from Pixar.
...I have a Kinkos office service a few blocks away where I do some printing at.
Granted I'm not much into scantily clad or horror themes, but I'm sure my Child Of War and Got Milka? images of my character Leela that I created could raise a few eyebrows.
I had a coupon to Shutterfly for a free 12 x 12 inch photobook. I was expecting to get a reply that they weren't going to print some of the images. But they printed up every image including this one. Though I did summit it to them a week before Halloween.
as I cannot see nothing that would raise any flags in the actual render
certainly not from a Christian perspective as you were suggesting
(I too checked your gallery)
I would think given the threat to involve the FEDs they thought you were printing someone else's work as suggested.
The average person has no idea about 3D, people think my stuff is from games even youtube flagged some falsely wanting to know what game I used since I monetised it, being unable to name one as there wasn't one they would not accept any answer I gave on that particular video so I gave up in the end and unmonetised it.
I had stuff printed at Kmart and the person who served me thought it was from a game too but was not terribly concerned.
...when I finally get the rendering horsepower I need, I will be doing high quality images which I will have printed at a fine art printing service.
Well, when I put the pictures into the computer and placed my order, the computer printed blank pick-up slips. The machines still generated prints of my artwork. The first manager she tried to get back there to look at the items was unavailable. She finally said for them to send any available manager. I think this manager would only know the computer flagged it and was deciding whether to go against the Walmart computer or not and risk making a mistake. But the problem is I had to hang around to make sure the printed works were defaced because the machines still printed them. Also if they had a trained, knowledgable person stationed in the photo department perhaps I would have known I would not be able to buy them and see them promply destroyed rather than an hour and half later, milk souring in the car, standing there saying no don't take my art to a backroom intact!!! I worked on the eyes and face and added some asymmetry, my husband said mabe they thought they saw pubic hair. I said no way, model has none on her. But he said they wouldn't know that. But its not really the staff's fault they have not been trained and they are over-worked and no one has been hired to man the photocenter and stand there to help people. The people are just adding that to a long list of things they do in multiple areas. That's why Walgreen's will get my business. They hired a person to focus on the photo area and be helpful and knowledgeable. Walmart has great machines but they won't man the stations with employees. Its not just the photocenter. Sorry, but not everything can run itself and get the job done. I don't sell my work but I like it on my own walls, and I don't wish to use a fine art service and pay the prices for it there. Maybe if I did a nude, I'd consider it. But that isn't what I do most of the time, so printing really shouldn't be a problem.
I had two renders with me, one where I had changed the background color in the render and done slightly different lighting. You can't alter these things without having the scene in Daz. That should have tipped them off I was actually the artist. But saying its a federal thing was weird. The computer flagged it, I am not sure if it just gave out an error code and no one really knew why. The Asymmetry in the face might have made the computer think it was a real person. The lady at Walgreen's said that made a difference when I told her the model was not even a real person. Model not really human, 3d generated. She smiled and said, "Now that I can do. There shouldn't be a problem." She said her standards were the same as mine, if people wear less on a public beach....
Well, it was odd to me that it didn't generate me a ticket with any print on it but I just thought the machine was out of ink since the pick-up slips were blank. Seems like if the computer did it, it wouldn't have printed the items automaticly. But I have been told Walmart is weird about stuff. I'm done thinking about it. I have to take my daughter to a doctor's appointment. I had never printed much of anything until recently. I kept hoping Walmart would hire and train someone for that station. I really like the first person that use to work at Walmart. I really liked the girl at Walgreen's. It was quicker. There was someone there. There is no reason for me to ever not bother to drive over to Walgreen's. There is no reason for me put up with the lack of service in the Walmart store in the photo center. I get to shop where I want to. People make a difference for better or worse.
I had a 2D digital drawing done by hand of Einstein in cartoon style and that site Zazzle absolutely would pull it everytime I labeled the picture as Einstein despite the fact there are plenty of public domain actually photographs of Einstein, Monroe, and so on being sold on Zazzle. So searching the internet I find out there are these toys or something related to childhood learning called 'Little Einsteins' so I figured it had something to do with that. Even though the toon styles was very different.
So I'm pretty sure those was flagged by computer program. I did make some money from the toon though by just not using the name Einstein & using the toon character.
Please excuse my european unawareness, but why should they? I mean, this is the age of "The Walking Dead" - yes, we got that TV show running on german TV, too, though I don't watch it because of reasons - so a young girl in camos on the street or looking a bit depressed among some ruin-ish surrounding without any nudity or blood&gore should be utterly normal nowadays.
I live in a small bavarian town (more like a village in fact) which is about as catholic as any bavarian town/village can be, but if I would put either of those pictures on a t-shirt nobody would raise an eybrow, except maybe for the fact that any guy in his fifties wearing a t-shirt with any kind of picture on it might be considered a bit weird.
...not wanting to step across TOS lines, I'll just say that taboos and mores here in the States are...different than other areas of the world. For example adverts and publications that may be looked on as normal in elsewhere would be considered "inappropriate" here.
Considering a recent event that occurred here last month, those two images of a young teen character with firearms (in the story she was a child soldier in a resistance movement) could be taken the wrong way, whereas, for example in the Balkans, it was simply a part of recent history.
Yeah, I had to go to the neighboring town to take my daughter to her appointment. They have a wonderful Walmart, they are one hour away and its worth the drive. Their photocenter was staffed with a very nice, knowledgeable guy. He said he'd have no problem printing it for me, you could wear it on the street without getting arrested and that was the standard. He had seen smaller bathingsuits. So it would appear I simply asked The Church Lady to pass me my Demon and it just didn't go well. This is where a manager is suppose to step in on my behalf and that is just not what happened. She kindly ripped up my art for me before taking it away. If I need to go to Walmart, the one I'm going to is an hour away. I was told complaining at Walmart.com is all I can do. I wrote two complaints about our store. I linked to my Gallery in my second complaint so they would see what our Walmart had a problem printing. I also wrote a glowing review of the neighboring store I will try to drive to.
Well, I was still ticked-off at my local Walmart so I went back today. I went to the photo department and informed them that Walgreens printed them and the Waycross Walmart said they'd have no problem printing them. I went to cutomer service, they asked if I had a copy. I went and borrowed the smaller print and went back and showed them what they refused to print back there. They acted it like it was all up to the holyrollers what could be printed. Then I asked the girl at the door if she could find me a real manager. One appeared! And she was was from out of town and she knew what 3d art was and had heard of Poser and Vicky!!! She told me to always bring a copyright release with me from now on wherever I want to buy prints. Considering the staff at this store, she kinda understood I might want to pick-up my items in Waycross instead of here if I ordered prints and things online. I know it might not do a lot of good but she said she would talk to the staff back there and let them know this was a bad call. Bad news is I have to do the releases on everything I tinker with. They probably should have made me get one from my husband for his photos after I hand-picked them and jacked them up to make them look better. I had been worried someone would oneday question whether I did the work or not. Now I know its a release form. Any complaints and its your legal fees is what you have to agree to.
