Today YET another female figure (group) - WHEN is Lee 8 coming?

and another day, again, where the shop's new releases consist of yet another female figure (Penny) and her flurry of subcharacters & gear. yee-hah.
while the number of HUNKY new male figures (yeah, not talking about Ollie, obviously) is as usually wayyyy behind.

especially Asian male characters for G8M. i've been waiting for months now! and since i practically look daily on the site, i'm pretty sure i didn't miss any, please correct me if i'm wrong. there have been other ethnic male figures, also asian females - we don't want to miss on animanga cuties in short skirts now, amirite - but afaik, not one single complete pack of Asian male, and it's april, like 4? 5? more? months after the release of G8M.
the only solution i have right now is using the Asian face morphs for G8M from SY, but it's by far not the same. for a start, no textures. i don't see why i should invest a fortune in UV or morph converters just to bring over to G8 some G3 or G2 Asian male figures.
G8M being the best base figure so far i think, considering the bends etc, i've been waiting to create some characters with it instead of G2/3 for a while now, in vain.

so, call him Lee 8 or whatever name you want, but please DAZ, i'm sure i'm not the only one missing a G8M version of an Asian male!

Been calling for (Real) Asian woman for a while now. (NO Aiko is not asian).

Hopefully we will see some soon....

  • More diversity please daz!

If you have Lee 7, you should be able to put his skin on G8M. I've swapped out G3M skins with G8M figures often for various characters and I've had no problem getting them to fit and I've not had to adjust anything. Some people claim there have been probelms with seams, but I haven't seen this happen.

If more people bought male stuff, more would be made; doubt that is what you want to hear, but it has a huge influence.

Sure it would be nice to have more diversity, and it will likely appear, but when... No clue.

Extremely stylised, which is another popular figure type.

No, A8 doesn't look much like a typical Asian, but Yumi for Aiko 8 does look rather Asian to me...

Lurya for A8 isn't 'classic' Asian, but I'm seeing some features there, so maybe one of her parents could be full Asian...

That being said, yeah an update to Mei Lin, etc. would be very nice.  In the meantime, there are a number of G8F Asian characters available through other vendors (Google Daz Asian G8F, or some such if you care), plus there a few other characters here that may tide you over until a Mei Lin 8, etc. comes along...

    Same for Lee, etc.

i don't have Lee 7. i was happy with Lee 6, and when i was about to consider getting Lee 7 (and his awesome subcharacters), G8M was released, so... i'm not so blessed on the cash side, sadly. besides, Lee 7's textures are not gonna give my G8M Asian features. the face (only) morphs i have look a bit.. i dunno, plastic. it's probably because i have no proper Asian textures to put on them..

i think i have swapped skins between all possible figures if there was a chance they'd fit or i had a pay/free script/preset to swap, incl. female skins on males (cool for make-up, but a huge pain if you want matching anatomical bits)

point is, there is a very annoying unbalance between the number, quality, time and frequence of "official" male releases compared with the female ones - by now not exactly a shocking novelty - and this year it's topped by a total lack of presence of "official" Asian G8 characters. or any actually, i haven't seen "unofficial" ones. not talking about toonish wannabe something, talking about people looking like... people. and i don't feel like jumping through hoops to try cooking up some mix to remedy to this incredible state of things.

As I said, if you want to see other options while we wait for more official Daz asian characters for Genesis 8, google Daz Asian G8F, and look at the images.  A few artists have made their own (some of which that are for sale)... 'real world' versions no less!

G8M, not so much, but there may be a few.

I'm sad to say that Lee 8 fell casualty to DAZ's ongoing predilection for overstuffing the Lee and Mei-Lin bundles with overly Asia-centric ethnicy-type content.  Apparently the DAZ designers did too good a job with Lee's stuff this time around and all the contents of his bundles were declared to be unauthorized imports and they, along with a distressed looking Lee 8, were sent to China when he failed to be able to provide documentation proving legal residence in the state of Utah.

Mei Lin, on the other hand, had just enough time to hook up with the first unattached male Gen 8 character she could get to agree to a marriage of convenience in order to stay in the country.  The delay on her products is because it now all has to be re-branded to reflect her new married name, Mei-Ollie.

there's some truth in the first sentence.. as if every single Asian person was walking around either as a ninja or a samurai, possibly wearing a rice hat. just as if like i dunno, every central european ran around in lederhosen or folkloric costume ~

as to the rest.. well why don't we swim some more in a sea of cliché. i'm not quite sure if i should frown or laugh...
omg.. Mei-Ollie, the ugliest anime schoolgirl ever. XD

Nah, the title of ugliest anime schoolgirl ever still belongs (and probably always will) to Beautiful Mari from Project A-ko.

If Lee and Mei-lin sell, we will certainly see them, I'm sure. I just don't know their sales numbers..

I suspect though, if they are releasing the likes of Ollie, they must not be so great as to warrant an early release.

The problem I have with Lee and Mei-Lin is the ethnic/traditional/martial fantasy arts stuff, is really unusable to me. I don't render it at all, and find the martial arts stuff unuseful to me.

IF they mixed it up with sci-fi or modern stuff, I'd buy it. But I just can't use more of the same asian fantasy garb.

I have a gut feeling some of the offbeat characters like Ollie and Sakura were PA characters that wound up getting bought out by DAZ and released as Pro Bundles, so they might not be really having an effect on the other figure releases so much as filling in between them. I mean Sakura was definitely a Rarestone deal originally, her stuff isn't even in the normal DAZ O folders.

Well that does say something for originality that excellent 3D models like Ollie & Sakura were recognized and bought out if DAZ 3D didn't commision them beforehand. Mei Lin 8 or not, I don't think continued repeats of nearly the same character outside of Michael 8 & Victoria 8 approach the nearly same sales figures generation after generation.

Although people in the forums really want characters with diverse racial backgrounds, I suspect they aren't representative of what the community as a whole tends to buy and there is the rub.

white females outsell every other character sold, which is why we are constantly marketed. If Lee outsold Vicky, we'd certainly be seeing more asian males. But Lee's sales aren't even sufficient to warrant an early release.

Yes, for sure that ain't going to be making a bevy of Ivan 7 style characters. Talk diversity all you want but businesses are in business selling what people buy. We really can't claim that DAZ 3D and the PAs haven't been accomodating and made some ethnically and stylistically diverse characters for their customers either.

laughing my *elbow* off. today i open the store's page.. and what do i see: Myeong for G8F. supposedly a Chinese female (not so quite sure about the realism...).

so either the voices from the forum are heard somewhere or it's pure chance... but at least there seems to be 1 (non-Aiko) Asian figure out there now. yay? or not.

i dunno if i should be elated or extra annoyed, because again, a chick - not that i wonder but still frustrating - not answering my need/request for an Asian MALE. urgh.
what am i supposed to do, buy Myeong and stick her skin on G8M (i have UV swap now) with SY's Asian face morphs? >_<
honestly when i look at that character i wouldn't even if i could waste $$ and time to make it work ~

We've been getting at least one Asian female every week. What we're missing are the males.

ACTUALLY, I HAVE TO APOLOGIZE for my forgetfulness. and for pretending there wasn't any Asian G8M figure at all. because actually, there is one (or rather two in one product).

and worse, it's very embarassing... i had it wishlisted. but at that time, i couldn't buy it because it required a product that i didn't own yet, hence the wishlist. and when i finally bought said requirement maybe a month ago or a bit more (G8M body morphs)... i totally forgot about this Asian figure, or rather, i was convinced it was some other product that was required. today i selectively clicked my way through the shop/G8/males to see what G8M guys were about... and i saw him again. ooops. me and my big mouth.

so next thing for my runtime besides Altern8 & Zed 50 poses G8/G3: https://www.daz3d.com/ej-hiroshi-and-masao-for-genesis-8-male
