Would like to get rid of the older Generations...

Weird question so I'll try to be as clear as possible.
IS it possible to some how separate all the old Generational characters like M3/V3/M4/V4 and their brothers and sisters from My Library? I'm not using them any more and they are just a pain in the tuckus to continue to move around when I'm backing up My Library. All I need are the Genesis Generations at this point. The biggest issue would be to pull all the info out of the data folder and the Runtime/Textures folders. Just seems to be a nightmare but I know it would decrease My Library by quite a few Gigs.
Thanks for any suggestions. If there is a script or program that can do that please link here!

I assume you didn't install through DIM? (Uninstalling with DIM would be the easiest way to remove most of it if you did.)
Did you install manually or via DIM? DIM has an uninstaller.
Not for allot of the older stuff, like most of us back in the day stuff was just put here, there and everywhere. We were all organizing things as we saw fit. Plus there is ALLOT of stuff from other stores also mixed in there! I really think content "nightmare" is the right word here! lol
Think the easiest way in that case would likely be to pretty much unstall Everything, and than re-install only that which you wish to keep
If it were me, and I know it's a chore, believe me, but I'd start over and set it up again, leaving out the Generation 4 characters. In fact, I did just that not too long ago. Took me a couple/few days, but it was worth it to me ;).

*SIGH* yea, I figured that was the only way... at least for right now. Might be something a script writter might make some money on if they were so inclined to make a go at writing a program that would suss out all that which someone wants to keep and the rest would zip it up and remove the main files from the current My Library!
I'm working on doing that.
Before you start, think about what you want to do.
I'm creating some extra folders (and as I have about 30 now), there are going to be a lot more by the time I've finished. Only about ten or so currently are DIM installable ones - atm.
I’d like to dump generation 4 and their items. I may just manually purge their directories. It would clean up that old runtime structure making it easier to locate newer content.
Generation 4 has far too many clohing and other items for me to delete them.
I'm with nonesuch. there's a bunch of still-useful prop weapons, clothes and hairstyles associated with V4M4 in my runtime, and although I'm mostly caught up on converting M4 skins to a format that can be used with the G3M geografts (think I still have a couple of RawArt characters I could transfer the skins on), I've still got a pile of Surreality skins to repurpose to G3F. (mostly be because just looking at all the makeup options makes me feel tired...)

I have decided to dump stuff from the runtime by hand at different times, and usually it involved searching piecemeal through the runtime in Window Explorer.
I find I don't use v4/m4 clothing or hairs, or characters. I do use props sometimes, but for me- I simply no longer like the way most of the older stuff looks, so removing it is not an issue for me.
I get that but look at the quality of the textures compared to way back then. Quality of the clothing is pretty much across the board but refitting is such a PITA as it is even with all the helpful scripts. Plus I make my own these days for my piddly needs. I'm not AT ALL wanting to delete content, I want to separate the old with the newer Genesis Generations and then burn them onto a disk or put them on a backup drive for safe keeping and guess what? I'll probably never need anything off of it. I see it this way, humans are pack rats by nature, we save and collect, it's hardwired into us but there comes a time when it's OK to let go of the older stuff to make room for new stuff! LOL So the idea of some brilliant script / programmer that would take up this idea might just make a small mint of all of the folks out there that want similar control over their older runtime/My Library stuff.
A few years ago I bought a new external hard drive and started a fresh runtime for Genesis and above. I left my "old" runtime on the old hard drive as a back up incase I needed it, and I have gone to it about 3 times in the last 4 years. I've been installing props and sets onto the new hard drive as I need them.
I love my Generation 4 stuff. I still buy and use them. I just repurpose for Genesis
Me too! Sometimes I'm kicking myself for just not sticking to that and using Poser. I would have saved thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours trying to figure out DS...
Or you could just buy these and make use of your library of older clothes and what not

Yes, I'd like to re-save all my V4/M4 clothing & such through G3 as G8 assets and create alther material settings since I bought all those JGreenless PC+ material shader packages. That's major bit of work so maybe someday.
I just did this the beginning of the year . well not get rid of them more of a reorganized my content drives..
I had put the current content folder i had installed I mean everything on a new separate external HHD drive, and then I went through re-installed all the new current daz content with stuff like genesis and genesis 2, after i was done the reinstall of the new content , then I went through the old stuff runtime content folder and removed all the genesis and genesis 2 content or had moved it over to the new content folder. that i just reinstalled and kept the old runtime content with the generation 4 stuff on the new external HHD drive for later use , it was the easiest way to reorganized and I still have my generation 4 content if were to ever need it in the future on that new external drive i can just plug it in an away I go. I also did this for all my environment's, & props I put them on a different HHD drive as well and i put my bill board props on a pass port external HHD drive so if I not using these drives I just can unplug them from my USB3 hub until I am ready to use them. I am up to 6 2tb drives now with installed content that I can use. truly it was the best thing I've done so i can find all my stuff to date.
I would probably use my V4/M4 content more often if it wasn't a pain trying to find them and their textures.
My next big time off is in July. So I'm thinking of doing the unthinkable. I'll get rid of my main My Library after fishing out and saving all of my content I made for Genesis, Dusk and Dawn and then just use DIM to reinstall all of it and then drop all of my stuff back in. My biggest concern is loosing MY stuff, the rest is replaceable via DIM (most of it....) then I'll keep ONE of my full, older backup's of My Library safe with all the old stuff in there including all the stuff from other online stores and freebies. I HIGHLY doubt I'll be accessing it but that packrat vibe pops up with the "what if" thing! LOL
I would use the 'check all' feature to uninstall all that content before hand & then move the remaining content folder elsewhere. Don't forget to uninstall anything you may of also installed via DAZ Connect. Then you can reinstall wht you want. Hope you saved your DIM downloads.
I'm so glad I picked up the content package assistant from the store here. I'm making everything I've ever picked up DIM compatable if it wasn't already. So when time cones to remove stuff, I can just uninstall it through DIM.
I've thought about uninstalling al my old figures, but I like the skins or morphs on a lot of them and some of them even come with clothings I still want to use.
Totally what I would recommend you do. I also keep my "development" runtime as a seperate entity, and that migrates with me.
Ohhhhh! Just this weekend I was doing searches trying to find these products - Thanks!
I wish I had set up multiple runtimes based on figures now
I still use them but damn it is confusing what fits whom
on the thread title, it sounds a bit Logan's run to a senior like me
Heavens no. Those downloads take up too much space on the hard drive. DAZ has them safe on their servers. I have 10 days off in the beginning of July so I'll go through the hell of all of this then. I may start backing up my stuff sooner. A good bit of it is already in my Content Creation/Beta My Library set up so that won't be too painful!
HAHAHA I don't have content that's over 30 years old as of yet!
I've been thinking further about this.

I'm currently planning on what sku to put where - relating to generations; Victoria 4 and below, Genesis, Genesis 2 etc
This is for figures; I'm planning on separating further. The only problem with using SKUs is that there are some out of sequence
Well a couple of the characters might be over thirty, but generally most chanracters are somewhere in their late teens to mid twenties.
