Question about HD add-ons and how they work when mixing characters

I'm looking at the HD add-ons on offer today as related items, and have some questions about how these HD elements work with other characters. Actually, the question might be more about character mixing.
Let's say I load up the Genesis 8 basic figure, then apply Victoria 8. Then I apply a "for Victoria 8" character. Then maybe I use dials to mix characters. Some of these characters are HD and some are not. What takes precedence?
If I have Victoria 8 HD, will a child of that character type also have the HD elements?
If I use a child of the character that is HD, does it matter if Victoria 8 is HD or not?
How does applying a child character over a parent character differ from just mixing them via the morph dials?

The HD moprhs are just like other morphs as far as mixing and matching goes, though I suspect trying to add two at once might look very odd. Of coruse there's a risk that the detail will not fit with a mixed shape, but that's something you would have to test case-by-case.
I've found that using HD morphs on another character looks fine generally, but I'd stick to just one at one time, unless it's an addon HD item like veins or aging morphs. Those do mix rather well with other HD morphs.

I use hd morphs for other characters than for whom they are designed all the time and I like the result.
Thanks, all. I guess it's like most other things--try it, squish it about, see if I like it. :D
I don't like them as the body and head are combined; even if they were seperate body and head, I wouldn't use many as I'd sooner there be more freedom over the body parts the effect.
HD add-ons aren’t combined, I use them all the time and they are separated into head and body.
I mix HD characters, with HD add ons and separate HD morph packs like Zev0’s aging morphs. You can create a base that’s hyper realistic before you even add on normals and bump mapping.
Make sure to preview your HD add ons by setting the preview window to smooth shaded and changing the preview subdivision of your character to at least 3 or preferably 4 in the parameters menu.
Remember you have to set your render level to 4, most people say 3, but that’s way too smooth to me.
I find when using HD for fine details it is often best to remove bump and normal maps otherwise the details may clash.
i will mix dial an HD add-on into a dialspun character sometimes, but only if i've already got that standard morph version of the character dialed into the mix already, and always at a slightler lower value than i've got the base character dialed in.
