I am a special snowflake... german, old and seeing advertisement only as a way to amuse me, but not as something to give me information about what's the best to buy...

just curious, is this a self compliment, or meant derisively in a self-deprecatory way? Know many Germans, but none that refer to themselves as special, nor as being a "snowflake."

It's a fact... so it's neither a self compliment nor is it self-deprecatory. I am a 57 year old german, who has no interest whatsoever in football - what americans call "soccer", but I really like american football. I don't own a smartphone, as I don't have any uses for it. I like japanese comics and comics by a gay german artist about his life and gay culture in germany, even though I'm utterly hetero. When I meet with my wife's relatives and her/their friends, I usually find nothing to talk about, except cooking, as none of our other interests are even marginally on the same level.

And considering how marketing strategies seem to work on the masses, but they (usually) utterly fail to work with me, I do feel that I'm probably different than most other people, who consider themselves as "normal", which, logically, makes me the one not being within the norm = a special snowflake.

And if you have not yet met a german who defines himself as "special" you might have just not met the right germans, than. Quite a few of us are very proud of not being "normal". It's usually expressed by assembling with other people who aren't "normal" either and to wear the same clothes as them and say the same things and think the same thoughts... in the end they often start a political party or at least a "Verein" (club/association/organization/society) where they can be all not "normal" together.

The largest percentage of not "normal" germans probably can be found in Berlin. Many of them are bus drivers or cabbies.

I live in L.A. I don't think I've ever met a "normal" person and I'm glad. I'm not even sure "normal" exists and if it does, it must be really boring!

"Normal" is relative. No matter where you live.

I'm sure there's a joke possible here about reversed normals, but I'm too lazy to come up with it right now.

It takes a lot to be an "oddball" here. Everyone I've ever met here is unique, quirky, interesting, most are creative, open-minded, and like to enjoy life to the fullest. I often go to parties that look like a Fellini movie and I love it!

And yeah, it's all quite off-topic, but I guess as soon as March Madness really starts to get mad it will all be on topic again after that...

It is interesting that the "March Madness is boring," thread has more conversation than the Always Another Sale thread.

Well, "unique" would kinda count that out... And there are those who are not so open minded and I choose not to hang out with them. So I guess I pick like-minded unique quirky individuals to hang out with... But I don't think I've ever met a "normal" person. Ever. I'm not even sure what normal is...

And I was in a sorority in college where they tried to make everyone dress, look, and act alike, but no one in that sorority was "normal" LOL...

Definitely. DAZ is loosing my money, in large part, baecause I refuse to buy content creators making things I don't need. That's a loosing strategy with me at this point.

It almost sounds like you want PAs to make things that they know don't sell as well just so you have something to buy.

How can they know that something will not sell when they not try to sell it first? Shouldn't that considered be a "self fulfilling prophecy" as something that is not made will of course not sell.

But yeah, of course they probably rather stay on the safe side by making "metalkini v200a" as there seem to be enough possible buyers for stuff like that, independent of the fact, that there are tons of those items alreasy sitting unused on their HD. devil

Simple; they make something, put it up for sale, and it doesn't sell well. Recent example; Alessandro _AM (the animal and LAMH guy) put a shark model in the store, and after a short time, people were wondering where it went because they could no longer find it for sale here. After a few requests, he brought it back.

I think you've built a stash and want something different that's already part of your stash.

    So let's get this straight......

    A'hem....

You buy TONS of Daz stuff.  You buy the stuff you like. Lots of it.

You want Daz to have more stuff that you like- that you already have tons of.

So you can say "Nothing new, I already have that"
So you want something different and new, but is still just like the stuff you normally buy.

When someone suggests something new, you say it won't sell and it makes sense to just keep making the stuff that sells...that you already bought....

So the freebies should be...the stuff you like, that you...

    a) WOULD BUY (so why lose a sale by giving you something you would buy ...for free?)

    b) DID BUY (so they know what you want and are giving it to you - only a bonus for those who wanted it and didn't buy it.)

    -----------------------

The only solution is to offer you stuff you didn't know you wanted or needed until they offered it.

Or make something you like and already own, but it's so cheap you're willing to collect more of it.

    --------------

Today's leather X-Suit. Went in the cart as soon as I saw it.

That's something I would buy. That was made for me. lol

BUT! As the cart begins to rise with more additions, I have to ask "Just how many tight leather hero/vixen suits do I need?"

And it goes out the cart,  not because it's not what I want, but because..you know Runtimes and Running out of money.

If there's anyone who doesn't own a suit like that, by golly, they win today. So that kind of recycling theme is for the new and for those that may have already used those kinds of suits before and simply want a new one or a new wrinkle.

    Maybe just for kit-bashing.

The pricing isn't really thrilling me.

I'd like them to bring back the buy 1, get 10%, buy 2 get 20% and friggin keep going. 50% is not that awesome when it's reached by buying three other products......

Keep the field open and reward those that buy more pieces and reward the vendors by spreading the cash around.

Normal is to act as bland and responsible as possible by day, then secretly go home and watch anime and create digital humans via Daz.  ;-)

Yeah, that one was super weird. Supposedly he stopped selling it because he wasn't getting enough sales. Because taking the product completely off the market totally helps with that. (What actually happened was he was trying to kickstart his own store.)

FWIW, I can't remember the last time that I heard "special snowflake" used as anything other than a derogatory term and assumed that it was just one of those things that take on a different meaning when adopted by a different culture... like how American anime fans all like to call themselves otaku even though it's not really a very flattering term in Japan itself.

I'm still trying to figure out what happened to a few new items that came out last year and suddenly disappeared.  There were a bunch that all vanished at the same time (not by the same PA though) and I eventually heard that one of them was pulled due to the use of a swastika, and another eventually reappeared after apparently needing to have a lot of fixes made. Some of the others though, like the fire station, I have no idea what happened or if they'll ever reappear either here or at another store.

So far, as I've stated elsewhere, I agree with the sentiment r.e. March Madness being underwhelming this year.

Last year around this time, I was playing discount Jenga trying to grab a lot of older items, and even remember getting a few of those below 50 cents apiece (I think I managed 28 cents or lower on a few items).

So far, this year I'm not seeing anything like that.  Of course, we haven't seen a PC+ blowout so far this month, at least not that I recall.

The other reason I know that the discounts are not as impressive this year are the notifications I get related to the Daz Deals plugin.  There are product sale notes in some of those emails that state 'best price in 1 month, 3 months, 6 month, 1 year'.  Looking at that list, I'm not seeing really much at all that is 'best price in 6 months or 1 year'.  Most of it is 'best price in 1-3 months'.

We still have a couple of weeks left in March, so I guess there's still time to 'blow the doors off' on some stuff, but March-April-May of last year was a rather exciting time for Daz sales (mostly on older items admittedly).  Whether we'll see similar deals at any point in the next couple of months for this year remains to be seen.

I want to thank DAZ for this March Madness that isn't.  I've saved a lot of money by not finding anything I'm interested in buying, at any significant savings.  And even my wishlist sorted by lowest price and below $20 has remained essentially unaltered from it's normal state.  Thank you DAZ .  yes

Madness would be giving away 3-4 Pro Bundles with the new A8 release. That would grab my attention and open my wallet.  But Daz chose not to give away ANYTHING free with the A8 pro purchase.  That's not madness, that's sadness.

If that is what you wanted, then in fact it was Febuary madness. I picked up Alexandra and Edward last month, and not surprisingly spent a lot more in Feb than in March.

I got those bundles, but they ended up a lot more expensive than the Aiko Bundle, and I already have the previous generations I want. What's a good deal for one buyer, is another's 'meh'

Indeed. I rarely buy any bundles on release (unless heavily discounted, like Monique 8 was during the PC+ sale). However for Alexandra and Edward I liked the figures and bundles for themselves as much as the free packs that came with them (although they were very nice). Since we have so many characters in the 18-30 age range, and a number (although far fewer) in the 50-60+ range, it was nice to finally see some that helped to fill in the gap.
