Why the shortage of 4 Door Cars?

When Polish's SUV hit the DAZ store last year, I breathed a sigh of relief.  (Or maybe I jumped for joy.  Or both.  I definitely remember letting out a yippee!) Finally, a modern four door vehicle to play with!  Sure, it's a hatchback and not a regular sedan, but hey, I'll take what I can get.

For too long, 90 percent or more of the cars on DAZ are two-door, and I'm wondering why.  Most wearables are made for females because that's what drives most sales on DAZ. Do 4 door vehicles generate fewer sales than 2-door jobs at DAZ, and that's why most PAs don't believe it's worth the time and extra effort?

It is not that 90% of cars are 2 door, as 90% of 3D models of cars are sports cars (ie super cars), and most of those are 2 door. I guess we are supposed to be rendering wealthy people only.

Well, in real life I drive a 2-door econocar, so you don't have to be rich to drive a 2-door, but I guess it helps with some of the sporty models sold here.  LOL

You can find a multitude of free real-world vehicle models here:  http://www.dmi-3d.net/

Plenty of 4-door sedans and others.  Most aren't rigged (simple OBJ or similar format) but a little work can be done to fix that if you need it.

  • Fully rigged models (so they have working doors at least) of 4 door vehicles are probably two times the work of a 2 door version of the same basic shape. And if I remeber correctly, there often were two door and four door variants of the same car sold probably 25 to 30 years ago, at least here in the US.

Two door sports cars, like women's clothing, are sexier.

So you're saying we should aim for the no-doors car instead? (Seriously. That car ain't got no visible doors! How's a villain to properly villain if he can't quickly get in or out of the car?)

And with adding the Deux Chevaux (https://www.daz3d.com/teuf-teuf) - which in germany was either called Ente (Duck) or Döschwö (which is how deux chevaux sounds for germans) - we can see there is an enormous amount of 4-door cars.

Well, there IS that glass cupola which probably will just open up to let the driver in... no need for something stupid as doors, when you can have a moving glass cupola, right?
