Ron's Spray Paint brushes look terrific- but I can't affort the new photoshop, have to work with a much older version. So sad there are no "old" abr versions of this. Does anybody know of alternatives?

    You're using a pre-CC Photoshop?

  • You're using a pre-CC Photoshop?

That's not surprising, I used CS2 for over a decade and only ever updated because I needed to be able to show other people how to use the new masking features.

It was not an expression of incredulity but a simple question, since the files contents specify CC 2018 but the description says any CC with special features in CC 2018.

My apologies. Better phrasing: what version of Photoshop are you using?

My version is still 5.5, but I installed Paintshop (cheaper) from Corel, which opens newer brushes, Still it doesn't support le dernier crie from Adobe.

All older abr-brushes work just fine.

Edit: The newer brushes just don't open.

So far I was able to use all his brushes in Gimp. it's an open source answer to Photoshop.

In general or this new set? The new set is the first to say CC only.

I have .ABR brushes that open fine in Gimp, but it might be that there's a new catch I'm not aware of. Perhaps there's someone who purchased this set and also has Gimp out there who could give it a try :)

I convert 'em to pngs using this: https://sourceforge.net/projects/abrviewer/

I have photoshop cs6 not cc

I use them in paint.net, which is free. I had to google the technique (which I believe involved abrviewer and custom brushes mini plugin), but it's not too difficult.

I have PSCS2.  He left me in the dust a while back.  I can't use newer packs, and I can't afford to be a PS subscriber..  I know this is the trend but I've never been trendy.

I bought 2 sets this past year and had to return them because they popped up a message that it was for newer versions.  However on the product pages it said it supported CS and up.  I complained to Daz customer support about the fact it said it would support my version but then didn't and they needed to change the page to reflect that, otherwise it's false advertising.  Packs were Glitter and Powder.  After that, Glitter was changed to CS6-CC instead of CS. However Powder still says CS but it gave me the same 'newer version' message so it went back too.  Glad I own tons of the older ones I got here, and a big Rons Brush Bundle I got many years ago at Content Paradise.  Have to make do.

  • If I may share, Deviney is considering a CS port for those of us fighting against the cloud.

He is such a great vendor. Not in the least because I can always justify supporting him.

When I was usin PS 7 I use to convert the abr files into PNGs and then create brushes from them a bit long winded but it did work.

I used abrMate for the conversion.

  • I love and respect all ,I will try hard to covert these to all users these are a great asset to any old photoshop user and new. These are a one of a kind made sure there are none like them anywhere hard work went into creating these so if you buy these the background images you can use so when I update the existing ones you will be notified.like others said earlier there is work arounds I use preset viewer by tumasoft this is one great product to use if you can’t open abt files in photoshop to convert to .pngs and then make brushes, and so many more uses.

thank you all for your support.

That would be worth considering if Ron would support my lowly CS2.

Thanks for that advice. I'm looking at tumasoft at the moment, might be of great help.

I have 68 brush packs between the ones here at Daz and the bundle I got at CP several yr ago.  So believe me, I am a supporter.  If you are able to make the newer ones available to ppl with older versions, I'd buy for sure.

The tumasoft viewer at least shows me the brushes I already bought, which were totally inaccessible to me before. The it kindly tells me in one corner of the screen that they are CS brush files. But no option to make them png. Is there a trick, or do I need another program for that? Among those 32 or 33 of your bruhes I own are some which I can't open with abrmate or my old photoshop and which I would love to use.

On the top is a small red folder that states where you want your files to go make a folder export to .png options  actual size or thumbnail (rasrter images only) that is what you want. on your desk top to name it something you know then on the bottom is a red folder where to export files to find the one created then it will ask you drag a file to export that is the .abr brushes then drag them to that folder.

I have PS Elements 11... will the brushes work in that, too?

  • ByrdieByrdie Posts: 1,783

Another CS2/CS3 user here. Hope there's a way to convert 'cuz these do look good, then again I've yet to see something of Ron's that doesn't yell "Buy me! Buy me!" no matter how deaf my credit card pretends to be.

  • So Deviney, are you making a new product or should we get this and wait for a Daz-update with edited brushes?

That red folder is missing. Might that be because I still use windows7 ? I'll contact Tumasoft ...

Found it. My error. I got the wrong viewer. I bought Argus, which shows the items, but can't export them. I need Breeze, which does export them.
