You are right .... YOU can't do that... but if you had the licensing and redistribution rights associated with this content you could.
However, you COULD put your own character, clothing and hair together... use the DaztoMaya plugin and export to Maya AND if you had purchased all of the interactive licenses for each of the pieces you used... you would have a rough approximation of what is offered here... minus the additional body shapes and likely at a higher price.
This is very similar in many ways to other sites that offer FBX rigged human models... but these are higher quality models with additional functionality (morphs) and/or offered at a much lower cost.
Thanks DAZ_Brian for some of the answers - I would have much rather seen some fully rigged and ready to animate ( Maya specific perhaps ) models than these - It is rather easy to create pre-vis models. It sometimes seems that Daz just is not interested in SERIOUS animation of their characters. However, it is good to see others stepping up and contributing what they can.
But I am still confused ( The Maya Specific File ) a bit do they have a working Maya Human IK control system or are they simply "rigged with Daz bones"
"you would have a rough approximation of what is offered here"
so still no clear answering here
is it so hard to give a correct full description ?
I am not sure how much more clearly can be stated that these characters are fully rigged and can be posed or animated in Maya. That is kind of the whole point.
The models started as Genesis 3 models and were exported using tools that converted the original Genesis bones to Maya compatible structure (limitations) and naming conventions. In addition to the "bones" the figures and clothing contain the weightmapping required to make the clothing move and bend with the figure as it moves and is morphed from shape to shape.
Since Daz has a money-back guarantee... you really have nothing to lose by buying one to see if it meets your needs.
@Daz_Brian YOU have to realize that the following statement is the FIRST time it has been STATED that: "I am not sure how much more clearly can be stated that these characters are fully rigged and can be posed or animated in Maya. That is kind of the whole point. "
So thank you for finally letting people know this info and perhaps simply including this information in the actual product description would be far more effective and much more clear to anybody interested. So, what I have discovered is I can create the same "Animated Bones" simply with 3rd party tools available, which was my initial impression. Never the less, thanks for FINALLY giving a acurate description of the product. sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh.
thank you Brian
