Thank you! Surely looks way more dignified on Edward =)
Not bad
I'm loving the latest men. I thought I'd take Keith for a spin - first a simple portrait:
Then I put him in G3M's Tux - hair in both is Commander Hair.
And here's Finn (with Edith for Alexandra 8)
Oh, I like! :D
Laurie
Thanks Laurie
Here's a quick-ish tinker and kitbash. I'm absolutely delighted to have some age options with these characters!
Added a render of mine of Edward 8. I really appreciate being able to emphasize the eyelids folds and the under eye surface.
Trying to get Edward 'decent'! Can anyone explain how to achieve (as touted in the banner ad for Edward 8) the stated backward compatibility of the three earlier Genesis editions, G1, G2 and G3, and also female clothing? Here is the excerpt of the blurb from the product page
Edward 8 is the older, distinguished man that makes ladies of all ages swoon. At his age, he is master of his craft, whether that is in battle, magic, or the art of deception. Edward knows all the tricks in the book and he is always one step ahead of his opponent.
Key advancements with the Genesis 8-based Edward 8 include:
Backward Compatibility (Read More) [there is no more, no link]
The most backward compatibility ever, through included clones for Genesis, Genesis 2, & Genesis 3.
Ultimate Content Compatibility (Read More) [there is no more, no link]
Includes clones for Genesis, Genesis 2, and Genesis 3 content even between male and female figures.
The main problem I've found is when just doing the fit and click popup menu--- is the pose. The g8 figure arms are down and the sleeves of the "backward compatible" garment go up at the opposite angle when "Fit to" is done. Pants seem to cling correctly at first but when "Fit to" is done, the pants shrink away from the legs towards the inside. Even if I try the pose change from arrow to Tee. Any pose applied even as just G8 male pose causes weird sleeve clumping and huge gaps. Extremely discouraging!
Now I have tried Sickleyield's script, and that doesn't always work either, even with applying her pose adjustment. The way the advertisement seems, there is no mention of relying upon an external script or procedure. So I am hoping I just haven't gotten the steps correct in applying even G3 male pants and shirts to G8 male, and some kind person will say the magic words that will make this work.
Looooooving this guy.
Edward with a heavy custom morph; texture is from Russell 7 by Raiya, facial hair by Redz, Super Natural Brows, Luthbel's amazing WWII soldier uniform; V3D A Touch of Dirt, KA Wound Kit. Lots of post ;)
Laurie
Real nice detail. Excellent
I hope someone makes a black character for Edward. Until then Edwardarius
That is an amazing render!
This looks really good.
As happy as I am with Edward and the characters in his Pro bundle, I'm very disappointed in some of the clothing that came in that bundle.
The texture of the Long Coat shirt neckline is really unacceptable for anything but a distant render. The problem is in the texture file, and is not caused by any distortion due to morphs or posing. The shirt neckline textures in the addon product are just as bad. And besides the neckline issue, what are those mismatched dark splotches on the arm and shoulder seams? In the days of Iray and PBR, why are artists still painting on fake shading like this?
When I load the Coat, it loads without buttons. The only way I can find to get the buttons to load is to load the entire outfit and delete the parts of the outfit I don't actually want. That doesn't seem very user friendly. Why aren't the buttons loaded with the coat?
I've submitted a bug report about this. Since this came in the bundle, I figure I'm stuck with it unless I return the whole purchase.
Edit: I must be wrong about the neckline texture problem being all in the JPEG texture file. Maybe there is also a UV problem. Even if I apply a shader, the neckline is very distorted where it connects to the shirt.
Edit Again: I'm still wrong! The problem seems to be the smoothing and high resolution (subD). With those turned off, the distortion is gone.
Thanks for pointing this out. I'm reticent to voice negative comments about sub-average products because I don't feel like being scolded by the thought police. Honestly, I'm glad the oversized buttons don't load, because I'd just have to delete them and replace them with parented button props anyway.
.Looks like the UVs have a problem to me. Definitely something that needs fixing. *sigh*
I just don't know what's going on at Daz lately. This kind of stuff almost never used to happen. Now I see it happening all the time. Stuff that's gotten missed in QC...geeze. This one especially would have been one that would have easily been seen when checking. What gives?
Laurie
Aha!!! I have figured out the real problem with the neckline of the Long Coat shirt. The problem is caused by the basic geometry not handling the High Resolution and Smoothing that the product is shipped with. Turn off both of those and the distortion is gone. Of course, that is probably not a viable solution, because without those, the shirt is kind of rough. I'll update my help request.
Wow, really? I would have sworn that was the uvs. However, I've found most clothing for Genesis 8 needs smoothing. Bummer.
Laurie
I think really.
I've already been wrong about this before
, but the evidence is pretty clear to me now. Look at the render I attached above.
The shirt has lots of polygons along the shoulder seems and the UV's on those are really distorted. If the texture was made with substance this might be cause for the generation of those dark blotches. As it is, they are part of the basecolor map. This can be fixed with a shader as you've shown.
The stretching near the neckline is also a UV problem. There are a few rows of really squished polygons on the UV map. This can only be fixed by fixing the UV map, and following that by recreating the textures.
Can a UV and texture change overcome the distortion caused by applying High Resolution (subD) and smoothing? I thought the geometry had to be created in a certain way to properly accomodate subD and smoothing. I'm not a content creator, though, so I don't know how all this is really done.
So here is the Long Coat shirt at Base resolution, no Smoothing, and Fabiana's knit shader. I applied a plain cotton knit to the shirt and sleeves and a ribbed knit to the neckline. I see no distortion now. The seam areas look OK to me.
Yikes, that's bad.
I think it is important to honestly discuss both good and disappointing products. It may save some other user from wasting money, or some other user may show me the error of my ways and turn a lemon into lemonade, as they say.
@xyer0, did you know you can scale the size of the buttons down? Expand the coat in the Scene pane (click on the triangle next to it) and select all 6 buttons. Then dial down the Scale slider on the Parameters pane.
Just tested it, the neckline works with High Resolution but smoothing off. So it seems smoothing exagerates the squished UV's. Yet smoothing might be needed for the dforce sim. I have little experience with that part.
The neckline was still distorted for me with High Resolution on and Smoothing off. Did you change any of the High Resolution paramaters? I couldn't find any combination that didn't distort upon close inspection.
Edited to add viewport screenshots showing the distortion I see in all combos except Base Resolution and Smoothing Off.
Why Edward is gone and came back Alexandra?
