DUF.TIP.PNG files.

  • I suspect they were called "tip" because of the long standing "tool tip" concept -- hover over an icon or screen element to get some additional details or info. Originally it was just text in a yellow rectangle to explain mysterious or confusing icons on a program's toolbar but the idea has since been expanded. I've even seen animated tool tips in one app to give a hint about how to use a tool.

@SpottedKitty -- The pop up tip can be larger than 256x256 if you want. I've made some that were 512x512.

@Silent Winter -- I don't bother making a separate tool tip image any more, I just make one larger one that is automatically reduced when displayed as an icon in the library, and then shown full size when in tool tip form. But then I'm not trying to use it to display for additional info the way Phoenix does (which is a cool idea).

cool - thanks for letting me know :)

This probably isn't the best thread for this question but how do you code the TIPs?

I think you're misunderstanding; it's nothing to do with coding anything, it's simply the name of the thumbnail image file. You can have two thumbnails, one without ".tip." which shows in the content pane and is 91x91 pixels in size, and one with ".tip." which shows in the popup when you hover the mouse pointer over the small thumbnail and can be up to 256x256 pixels.

I understand that there's the 91x91 Icon, the 256x256 "tip", possibly the 512x512 "tip", and that the "tip" can be used as closeup, alternate angle, or as a rasterized text info pic.

What I mean is, in the example illustrated by Digital Lite Design the "tip" is very clean. It has the corresponding .duf file name and "Click to Load" and "Right Click for More Options".

My "tips" however have the File Name: File Path: Artist Name: Date Created: Date Modified: all cluttered up on the right. Which I do not want to display for astethics as well as privacy.

Which has me guessing is it in the .duf file or will require alteration of the ascii.

If even possible in 4.10 is there some other coding alteration or process to hide this metadata for/from any third party who would be purchasing a product?

Ah, I've got it, now I see how we've been talking past each other — what you're describing is the "tooltip" popup, which will show the "tip" (not the same thing) icon if there is one. The "clean" and "cluttered" versions are not part of the tip icon, they're extra info displayed in the tooltip. And it seems different tooltips are shown depending on which Content pane you're looking at. The screenshot on the previous page shows the Smart Content pane, which I never use; I only use the Content Library pane, which shows the "cluttered" tooltip.

Neither — it's in the metadata associated with the content that's stored in the Content Database. I never use the database, either, so I can't really tell you how to manipulate it.

  • I'm a new PA (one pose product in the store, one in the pipeline, and one being created on my desctop), and I didn't even know about these. I guess I've just had tool tips turned off for so long, I just didn't remember ever seeing them. I turned tool tips back on, and now I'm thinking I had better include them with the product I'm working on now. I haven't worked with the process for supplying updates to my existing products yet, but do you suppose this would be worth doing for those exosting products?

Since you only have one in the store and another in review, its not going to take long to update your products.  I always render the TIP files and then batch process to get the 91x91 thumbs.

When you are ready to upload your updated set, there is a section where you state its an update and you go from there.

FWIW, I consider these larger tooltips an especially good idea for pose sets. Half the time I can't make out what the pose is with the standard size thumbnails, especially if they're just labelled "pose1", "pose2", etc.

I do the same as Matty - render all thumbnails at 256, then reduce one set to 91x for the basic thumbnails. But if necessary, I often create separate tips/thumbs - for example, if I want to use the tip to show an item's morphs or other options. If I'm adding text, I don't need to render them separately. One other bonus is that if you call your thumbnails .png, (as opposed to .duf.png), the user can resave a file without overwriting your original thumbnail - useful if you spend time making them look good. DS will show the resaved .duf.png, but if the user deletes it, DS will display your .png.

I keep meaning to put in a request to show the .tip.pngs in DS, but NOT every other tooltip on the UI. I always keep tooltips off until I'm at the point where I want to check a product's .tips.
