Upper Class SUV wheels look gross... plz help!

tkztkz Posts: 149

Can anyone recommend settings to make the wheels not look like they are tarnished while still being metallic?

That gross tarnish seems to be baked in to the surface/material... and the only way I've been able to get rid of it is to make them grey... which doesn't look anywhere near as nice...

    Daz comes with some great iray shaders. You might try some of those.

  • I had to chuckle at this, as I happen to know that that particular finish is a legit option for that style wheel.

     Personally I kind of like it. Wheels that are too clean look too fake imo, some tarnish or dirt makes it look like it's actually seen a road. lol

    Thanks Divamakeup, nice new avatar! I didn't think those would work well because the whole wheel, disc and break pads are under one material... but I'll give it a try... Update: My fear was kinda of right... but they look much better nonetheless. Thanks again for the tip!

    Daywalker... is that saracsm or are you being serious? If serious.... wowzers. I feel out of touch... :) I originally wrote they look diseased... or that someone forgot to wipe off the polish. Perhaps a trademark for mr/ms Polish.

    If the maps aren't separate, you're going to have to go into the diffuse map and paint over the rims with a color from the shiny part (this should be able to get away with a solid base color). Do the same thing for any metallicity, reflection, roughness, bump, and specularity maps. Then load your altered maps in.

    EDIT: I checked and the surfaces are separate so you should have no problem with shaders.

  • I'd be inclined to try one of Mec4D's shaders - she's got a chrome set that's my go-to for motorcycles, etc.

    Thanks agent unawares... I figured it would be something like that... but wasn't sure what keywords to use to find a tutorial. Much appreciated.

    indi_411fbd3d29 - I have a bunch of her stuff wishlisted.... but promised myself no more buying for a little while. Partly for budget reasons, and partly trying to support other stores because of being sick of Daz playing the stupid sale game. Was wasting way too much time checking out the deals, only to get further frustrated by the constant glitches... not too mention finding most of the gen 8 characters gross looking... but that horse has been beaten enough.

    Hey,

    I've run into a problem with the Upper Class SUV by Polish.... https://www.daz3d.com/upper-class-suv ;

    One of the chrome arms, and associated plastic bit, on the head rest don't move with the rest of the chair... They are just stuck floating in their original position.... The same problem is on both of the front seats.

    What is the best way to report this?

    Thanks!

    Hey,

    A request for the the Upper Class SUV by Polish.... https://www.daz3d.com/upper-class-suv ;

    I'd like to be able to render some shots with the body transparaent... but am running into problems with the groupings... the biggest being that the seat materials are grouped with other parts of the car.

    Ex: I can't get rid of the plastic bits from the seat belt without losing the whole bottom of the seats...

    It would also be really nice to deal with each of the front seats and the rear seat seperately... not have them all be grouped....

    Thanks...

    Another one..., There is also corner light glass that has no material. When you zero out everything, they remain...

    You can use the geometry editor to create new material zones and hide others or specific polys.

    Haven't heard of that before... looks like I have some learning to do.

    Thanks for the tip!
