...so what exactly does it do?
Looks like it allows you to launch any windows program / file from inside Daz.
...but what purpose does that do I rarely if ever run anything else while working or rendering, takes up too much in the way of system resources.
I too miss the point but I guess it is handy to have that utility
if you want it
like anything
This sounds useful if you are some sort of evil white cat stroking super villain who wants to continue work on a render while still having the option to activate their killer robots/ death rays/ and or sentient land shark cyborgs with laser eyes, and not have to interrupt the render in the middle, if the League of Heroic Heros and Heroines™ were to show up unannounced...
...Of course provided you aren't on a Macintosh.
also it could be good to archivate things downloaded with Daz connect as you like, or have freebie pdf tutorials of daz tricks all inside daz, or just manage your content library easily.
If you also have map manager, you could archivate duplicates on character presets with your combined textures and more
Yep, I kind of fail to see much real value to it. I can just minimze DS and lauch whatever prorgram I I want from my desktop.
Now if it was a real bridge and transfered the model (or whatever) to the other program, then I could see areal value.
I am confused on this one also. I fail to see the need to have my desktop icons inside of DS
I feel I must protest at this steroetypical depiction of white cats. The majority of white cats are law abiding members of the community (or as law abiding as cats ever are) and there are numerous examples of black cats, tabby cats etc being stroked by evil super villains ... although I can't think of any right now.
To go back to the original question, I can't think of any reason I'd want this unless the application launched could interact with the Daz Studio session that launched in some useful way. If I want to launch another application I just launch it.
Quod erat demonstrandum.
Yeah, I'm kinda confused by this too.
I guess if I could open GIMP and have it automatically load a chosen texture so I didn't have to go hunt it down to modify it, that would be one thing. But I don't see it saving many steps between launching from within DS and launching from my desktop.
Is the developer..... perhaps that person could enlighten us.
There must be some very useful purpose for this.
Perhaps it will take you to a content item and allow you to use it without putting it into DS content?
Well maybe the Launch Anything has some sort of DS resource argument integration such that you would setup to launch, in addition to LIE and such an external program using that image on that surface within GIMP or Photoshop and also pass to those external editors the extire path to the image being edited and say a 'Your Person PA Product' work area if you were making a new product or just making a non-selleable persional variation.
So I guess saving the user from having to manually navigate to some obscure directory 12 levels deep and also have a configurable save locations per each product would save a lot of hassle. Also the same could be done for geometry and scripts and so on.
So think of it like this: You have a product and all it's installed files are listed in DIM. This Launcher should be able to launch the relevant external editor from within DS for you to edit and save a product's changes. You could also, say you wanted to create a new product, tell it to copy a product that was similar and it would copy that product and you'd go about completely replacing the product files with your own but in that way you'd have a working outline of all the files and file types you need to create a product. It's really an obscure process how you do that now other than more or less manually figure that out yourself be looking at different products.
That Launch program would need to be programmed to do that.
I'd guess that the main use of the utility is to allow you to place clickable links to read-me's, videos and PDFs inside the Content Manager.
This seems like quite a useful tool.
But why? I can't think of a reason for that myself. Then again I don't use DS as a browser.
It's kinda bugging me. I feel like there might be some stellar use for this, but for the life of my I can't figure out what it could be.
There is a little more information in the PDF here: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/50331/start.
If I hadn't already invested hours into setting up desktop shortcuts to folders of shortcuts to all my graphic related apps, docks, vidio tutorials etc I'd be looking with interest at this. As it is my setup works equally well for DS, Poser, Unity or whatever.
Whoops, sorry I was not paying attention the last few days!
Yep, this is pretty much exactly it! I just typically make stuff that I would like to use, or that I would like to have!
I found myself hunting down a great tutorial from Sickleyield a month ago, on DA (for the 7th or 8th time) and found it, then realized I had actually put a link to it in my boomarks, after the fact. (for converting G3F Clothes to G8F without the arms sticking)
I wished there was a way I could just quickly save the tutorial it in my G8F clothes folder. So I searched and made a script to do so. Then I liked it so much that I wanted to do the same with a Redz tutorial. Repeat...Repeat...etc. I use it mainly for reference material.
In the end, I thought there has to be a quicker/easier way to do this. So I made it! I've made a ton of shortcuts now, all in obvious place that they are needed for quick launch or reference.
Everyone has a process, and this is just yet another way to access stuff, since DS does not have a Drag-n-Drop to the library. For those who like it, I'm glad! For those who don't...OK!
...the sentient land shark cyborgs with laser eyes are an easter egg, if you can find that button...mwahahaha!
