Completely off topic for the original thread discussion, but here is the conversion of "Dublin" that I did.  Please forgive the poor hair fit on the DS version - I needed something that would render quickly in Poser.  I think that the version I ended up with looks older, but I am pleased with the detail showing on the skin.  I think perhaps the Poser lights are washing out some details in this render.

This isn't to say that there aren't some excellent, detailed characters here at Daz, but it is nice to revisit older characters.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Perhaps if you want absolutely drop dead goergous how about

To me this is a bit too perfect. I'll probably continue to try and make characters with... character. Cute sure, beautiful too, to me anyway. But these too perfect women, where I get the feeling that they could never exist, or if they did they would spend all their time in the gym or under a scalpel. That just bores me.

Anyway, I'm so happy to even read my name in a thread like this! Thanks so much all heart

I'll leave this here too. It's a promo for my girls that didn't make the cut. They've fallen asleep on top of each other (they are not dead, I assure you!).

Ah, G8 only. Sorry, shouldn't post just before bed.

The girls are on my wishlist bluejaunte. And as for beauty - yes in the eye of the beholder. I think Lyra is absolutely lovely. LOL Besides, I have more than enough supermodel types already to keep me busy if that's what I'm wanting. Usually isn't tho :P

I strongly agree with you and what I'm hoping to see are characters that have so much details in the skin that they look like real people instead of everybody using the same stale old "merchant resource" that has washed out skin with no "real details".  The skin should look real because it has so much detail .. we want fingerprints on the fingers and palm prints on the palms.  The under side of the arm should be a different color from the top of the arms since thats how it is on every human alive.. look at your own skin and make it look like that!  I have micro hairs and small scrapes and freckles.. we need all the details.

Thanks for making a great character. Keep up the great work...

You're dreaming. That level of detail would take an insane number of hours and months of work. The PA would have to charge 100's of dollars at least to make it worth the countless hours to create that level of detail. Creating skin textures is extremely difficult and time-consuming and getting ahold of good high-resolution skin photos to do it can be very expensive.

It sounds like you want a figure that is indistinguishable from a real person - but sadly, 3D figures just aren't there yet.

Most of those details would be useless except in extreme closeup shots, to be honest, which is why I feel most PAs don't bother with them. I have other things I disagree with him about on top of that; not all details need to be seen in all situtations, for one.

    Nice result :)

I think she looks a bit older because her skin tone in the Poser version is pinker and brighter, while in the DS version it's more blueish.

Thank you!  I think you could be on to something there about the lighting.

  • My favorite is maelwenn's Lydia.  I'd love to see a V8 version and more products from her.

Of course you were right but I just have to ask.. Are we their yet?  For me my favorites are always the most realistic.. it also means I end up with a lot of frogs to kiss but then my favorite outfits are by Luthbel and he always charges extra.. I would imagine that he/she spends a lot of time making those damn great looking clothing and no doubt MEC3D, Midnight Stories, Slosh, Dreamlight, Stonemasons (just my short list from memory) all make very few items that stand out...  Just to name a few.  You can't tell me that the years spent crafting "Urban Sprawl 3' doesn't make that product worth a heck of a lot more than the under $60 they charge.. Hopefully they make the money through a large volume of sales.  Interesting enough... one of my favorites is the Genesis Supersuit.. I can still get that fitting Genesis 8 and it has so many options that no super hero should ever be without... an update on that would be AMAZING if yo ask me...

So for me... I ask "Which items are the best" because its helping me to find things I might have missed... Love to hear your current favorites too.

Wow, you have convinced me I should collect all the PA's texture sets. She looks younger too me. The pink one looks overly made up with blush & foundation, but still nice enough that I've had her on my wish list a long time.

There was no response in this thread to warrant opening it back up considering a virtually identical one was locked not long ago. Therefore, we are locking this one as well.
