My randomly assigned default Daz forum avatar makes me happy

Normally, when I spend any amount of time on a forum, my thoughts go pretty quickly to coming up with an appropriate avatar for that forum (usually from some game, movie, or other media source), and indeed have a number of different avatars scattered across the internet.

Here though, ever since my first post, yeah every time I see that big red smilie face with the black eyes that the Daz forum software assigned to me, I simply smile and am happy with it.  Yeah it's pretty understated, but it seems to express my happiness to be here, my willingness to help others when I can, and my desire to learn new things.

I do like other people's 'custom' avatars, and admire their choices, but I just don't feel the need for a more fancy one here, as the one I have now does the job just fine!!!

Does anyone else here have this sort of relationship with their 'default' Daz forum avatar?

I have a custom one, but I appreciate your positive attitude!

Now that you mention it, I've been happy to keep my randomly-assigned avatar, although at one point I was thinking of auto-fitting a big poofy hair. wink

Maybe there's material for a student psych study here -- comparing the number of people who keep their auto-assigned "happy" avatars versus ones with angry or annoyed expressions.

Same with me. I've considered trying to think up an avatar but I think I' d feel bad losing the one I've got.

I created mine (through gravatar?) a long time ago for some random site (github maybe). I'd forgotten about it until my first post here (I guess Daz uses gravatar). It made me laugh so I changed my name to match. It's stolen from SNL, but if it encourages folks to watch a few of the old toonces skits, it's worthwhile!

Well, mine seems to have its mouth taped shut, and has a bolt or something in the top of its head, but I've tried not to take it personally. Honestly, it simply isn't that important to me, so I just let it ride.

it kind of bewilders me truth be told when you have a program that renders hot 3D people, why anyone would want a default randomly assigned circle with squiggles.

Some of which are downright terrifying devil

SixDs yours looks like a pigs snout, Peter Wade's the phantom button, ColinFrench a power plug

I like these DAZ forum assigned avatars by far better than any other avatars I've seen. I wish I knew how to 'download and collect them all' because they make me laugh.

Just right click on one and select "Save Image As". At least that is the Firefox way on Windows.

LOL, I've done that. I was more wanting to see the whole lot of them. I don't think I have.

Nah, I'm not horrifying, don't be scared. I've just grown a little bit grumpy. I blame life for that. :)

Unfortunately my random one is kind of depressing, because I do like the round avatars in general.  Maybe I'll make my own.

I just took a second look- why is the OPs circle so much bigger than the others? Or is it just an optical illusion?

Because that is an avatar the OP made not an assigned one. I thought something looked off about it. Also notice the background color for the OP's avatar is the alpha channel.

far as I can tell, that avatar has the same background colour as the forum sidebar.... the OP did say (s)he did not chance the auto-assigned one... though the image is in the 'uploaded' section, so maybe altered a bit????

Yeah, that's what I am questioning. They definitely said they didn't change it, that it was assigned. I'm not doubting them, I am wondering if Daz has changed the avatars.

Not sure but I just did an image search for these 3 attached avatars in Google image search and I'm pretty confident that avatar image wasn't assigned by DAZ forum SW from its defaults.

Also it seems the plex.tv forums use the same forum SW as DAZ 3D.

Google Images Search 'Visually Similar Images for the 'mad face'

Notice the the OP's avatar isn't in the list of forum avatars and also that is an alpha channel background and the circle is bigger than the others. That is not likely that those forum designers that created those avatars would change the size suddenly for just that one avatar.

  • I don't remember if there were randomly assigned avatars on the old forums which is when I joined. I couldn't wait to create my own avatar. I've made a couple over the years. My original avatar is getting another makeover and will be back soon but I've enjoyed using a couple of different avatar images. As long as you are happy with your avatar, that's all that really matters.

Sometimes, you just stumble across an image and it's love at first sight.  Well, sort of.
