dForce Trees and Leaves - Brilliant!

What a wonderful idea for implementing dForce! Now let's see if we can get a cherry blossom variant... :D

    two thumbs up!!!  yesyes

Very creative use for dforce.  Hope it is a sign of other outside-of-the-box ideas to come.

Thanks for pointing it out.  Might have missed it by not looking closely enough.  I did make a cherry blossom tree for Carrara but I used the formula modeler for the blossoms.  Not sure how well they would convert to vertex models and then to obj format and then export to Studio, but may do a couple of tests.

  • LOVE this! The leaves look to be maple? I'd like to put in a request for oak leaves if there are any add-ons planned - but in the meantime, I'll kitbash it myself. Thanks EcoManiac3D!

Are the leaves transmap or actually modeled?

I imagine the leaves are transmapped based on the unnatural machinations they went through I saw in the video where they where animated. I buying for renders and animations, but probably not the inactive license at $50!

That’s a good thing because it makes it feasible to just swap out maps for other leaves

Looking at the clay promos, they are transmapped

My biggest concern is perforrnace as the trees look very detailed both in mesh and the amount and size of the textures.

    Yes, that is good.

  • I purchased the product. The leaves are transmap, with multiple shapes and colors.

Gorgeous and creative too... now if I could just get a dforcable dirty kitchen...... wink

If they are simple transmapped planes its very easy to get free replacement leaf images on the web. Thats what I do with Blender.
  • I saw this and watched the video. I definitely want to play with this. It and the video look amazing.

Yes, this is a great idea. I can see this being done with shredded paper, hay (spread out on a medieval floor) - in addition to the blossoms already suggested...lots of things

I love watching the video for this product! Frames 0 to 18 would be worthy of looping, mesmerizing, like watching a fishtank or fireplace.

+1 Straight into the wishlist it went, shortly after Daz Midnight.

With transmapping this thing could be used for all sorts of things, like debris and paper rolling through a street or stadium.

But yeah, I am also concerned about how resource intensive this may be. Do you need a beast machine to run it? What kind of machine does the PA use in their video, and how much has that video been sped up?

Can you adjust the total amount of leaves?

I wonder if dForce could be applied to existing trees that I own. I think I'll try and see what happens. I doubt that it would be as full featured as this product, though.

Possibly, it probably depends on if the leaves are attached to the tree by geometry or not. They might stay on the tree and droop like soggy paper. Or worse, they magically float upwards and the tree explodes. There could be some humor in seeing this happen.

It's outstanding and I love it to bits and he's amazing and if he does an add-on with a whole bunch of different leaves and blossoms and what-not, I will overuse it SO hard! :p

    The video was amazing!

I haven't even bought it yet! I slam-dunked it into my cart mentally when I saw it but I keep forgetting to buy it. Off I go!! @__@

Hey, this worked much better than I expected. I used Stonemason's Japanese Maples and the rugged terrain from Stonemason's Through the Woods.

    Very Interesting!

  • This is amazing, but for me the one important question raised above still has yet to be answered....do we need to own a 'beast' of a machine (either with a high end cpu or graphics card) for this to work as shown in the promo video? I would hate to purchase this and then find it has a minimal spec requirement, so would be interested to hear from anyone with a low spec machine that has bought this.

    Kind regards.

I have a 980Ti, and ran the simulation as a quick test yesterday at highest settings, and it took quite a while with the card working at full force.

But I haven't tested on lower settings yet, and CPU.

I have this in my cart but not yet checked out: I would think that it would be fairly simple to select half of the leaves (marquee select with the Geoemtry Editor tool, then remove the trunk polygons), assign them to a new material, and make that invisible to simulation (or even do it twice, leaving just the front-fight leaves say) to do soem tests of the settings, only applying those settings to the full tree once happy with them. Wouldn't speed the final simulation but should speed testing.

I don't know what i do wrong but , using different dynamic tree props, from Ecomaniac product,  i just got an error message : error during preparing objetsééé(see capture screen)

If someone can just write the how to do it simple step by step  i will appreciate really

I have used dforce before with cloths with success but with thees trees i cannot do it

    Thanks

  • Which version of DS (Help>About Daz Studio)? Are you using CPU or GPU for the OpenCL (see the Advanced tab of Simulation Settings)?

    Thank for reply

i use the 4,10 version of DAZStudio with OpenCl device NVidia Cuda  GeForce GTX 660, Windows 10 pro 64 bits, 32 gigs ram

What are you simulating with? Do you have the CPU or GPU or both? If you are doing it with GPU, the 660 may be running out of memory, or lack up to date drivers. Make sure your GPU drivers are up to date.

  • As the simulation at a decent quality is slow for me (not this product specifically, just in general this has been the case), has anyone tried (and had success) with adding a wind node? The leaves seem to explode a bit on me, which I think is just a matter of adjusting some settings, but since each test takes a while was wondering if folks had tips.
