Can I turn shadows off on a geometry shell?

Hi,

Can I turn shadows off on a geometry shell?

Accepting or casting shadows, or both?  I suspect, strongly, it'd come down to what shader you had applied to the shell and which render engine you'd be using, which (to my limited knowledge) would mean not using Iray.

I'm using an IRAY fur shader.

The shadows are really increasing the render times.

    Any advice is appreciated.

There may be ways of doing it, but Iray is a PBR engine which means light tends to do what light does - cast shadows.

If you want to save Render time, I suggest going into Render Settings/Optimization and set Max Path Length as low as you can (probably 3 or 4; if stuff turns weirdly dark you’ve lowered it too much).

The problem probably isn’t shadows, it’s geometry; for Iray displacement to work properly you need to crank up subd a lot.
