Upgrade to V4 from V8?

I'm debating whether to upgrade to Victoria 8 from Victoria 4.  I have all sorts of stuff for V4, including the body suit and expansion, a ton of clothes, and the body morphs.  If I upgrade to V8, am I going to find that I can't use a bunch of my items with V8?  Or, is it truly just an upgrade with some cool added features?

    Depends on your DS skill level.

    V8 has different UV maps and a different vertex layout, so hardly anything old will work out of the box.

    I upgraded and the results I get are much nicer, albeit at a cost. Converting is a pain. Luckily, I enjoy the creation process enough to not mind starting essentially from scratch.

    The upgrade from earlier genesis figures if far less painful because of addons that help and some backwards compatibility. V4 is really old and it will take some effort to create a clone to use any V4 clothing on g8 .

    There are plenty of tools in which you can use in order to utilize your/our bloated V4 library, I would wait for sales in order to get them as they're 100% worth it in the long run as using V7/V8 is by far the best way of having realistic characters as the bends are much more realistic and easier for content creation!

    Another benefit is that there are literally over a decade's worth of content for V4 already, not to mention the fact that PAs are still making content for V4 on renderosity, so the library is constantly growing for V4, which can also be used for generation 5 through generation 8 characters!

    Thanks for the input.

    ​My skills are pretty low (I don't even know what a vertex layout is). 

    I haven't been able to find a link to a tutorial about converting the V4 clothes to V8 clothes.  Is there a tutorial available that could teach me what to do?
    ​Alternatively, is there a product I can buy that woudl do this for me?

    Short version: To you, V4 is a woman. To your computer, she's a few thousand points with lines connecting them. To you, V8 is a woman who looks just a little different from V4. To your computer, she's a completely different set of points and lines.

    You make the V4 clone for G8F, then you can autofit the V4 clothes to G8F. May need tweaking, but should work for many items.
