Transfer Utility G3F to G8F

I used the transfer utility to copy morphs from G3F to G8F. works almost well, but the teeth are a proplem. Because of their dense mesh, they are distorted on the target figure. Is there a way to exclude teeth from the transfering process?

Once you transfer morphs,  you can  export current shape, and re-import it by morph loader, then use attenuate option to limit defomation with new weight map

or you can directly select vertices and remove effect of vertices ,with parameter tab (you need to set the morph as favorite).

Josh you tube tutoriall may show you the way (limit morph effect, which you made)

I am now planing to transfer some character to G8,, then see how it work,,

I just transfer my character  head morphs only,  with default Clone G3F, it seems work. (G3F mat preset seems work withotu problem) as you said.

yes I can see teeth gap change,, g8 seems bury G3F character teeth gap (I did not correct it before,,) maybe there is small distortion on separated and auto generated morph eyelids too.

Then I think,, if you exclude teeth part from morph, you need to manually move teeth in another aprication.  becaues teeth not change shape but not follow head current shape too. (it may only work if you keep mouth positon)

if your mouth positon move or change size,,  then you may need to adjust scaling or potition in another app.   (I may prefer all inner mouth and teeth exclude, then adjust them again)

Then,, I think,,,actually  g3F and G8F seems almost same geometry about face,, there is no diffrence I can see clear,,

How the heck did you get it to work.. im getting to 22% then freeze and crash which ever options in selecting on G3F and G8. would be really grateful if you could share your work through on just face transfer.

@CynderBlue - I'm thinking your beautiful Imani for G3F would look great on G8F or V8. She's on my list to try with the transfer tool if I can figure it out.

Here's some excellent tuts that should help you out for general and single character morphs, hope it helps!

I've found the transfer utility is not so good for FBMs, as it's messing with the hands and arms.

This is an alternative, though slower method, with which I've had pretty good results. Tutorial and helper scene/morphs included.

Aww, Ty Llynara, glad you like her, the one i tested on is my latest one Gabrielle, as long as the morphs pass testing, i will be for now adding them as a freebee to all my G3F models and updating my older ones to include them. Hopefully this gives my customers time to either save for the new G8 items they want whilst still getting the G3F content they need. As my characters are mostly custom sculpts and rarely rely on dials they should work with the out of the box G8, those that do will need to be tweeked so may take a little longer. i will be posting updates on my Facebook for anyone that want / needs to know more.

I've realised something. If you're reasonably confident with the techniques and using the transfer utility as per Sickleyield's tutorial, a much quicker way to do this is to load the G8F_G3FMorphs.obj onto G8F using morph loader pro so as to make a better clone of G3F. In the parameters choose your new morph and set path as hidden-clones and type as modifier/Clone. Save the morph and reopen Daz. Now when using the transfer utility as per Sickleyield's tutorial choose your new clone instead of the default one for G8F. I've found the transfer of body morphs much better, though a few extreme face morphs don't transfer well.

First of all thank you so much for this great way to transfer morphs.

I followed the tutorial to the letter but with every pose the hands/ finger look awful and distorted.

Only now I saw you uploaded a new revised tutorial file, will that help with the finger issue?

    Kind regards

    Petra

Use a G8F in "T G3F" pose before export to .obj and after apply the transfer utility use an "A G8F" pose and export the .obj it's given me goods success.

note: with the transfer utility you have to chose item Shape: Current in the Target options.

  • I successfully used this tutorial to transfer my g3 to g8 but I would like to try a head-only morph transfer instead of a full body transfer since transfering the body as well, results in some wonky posing issues especially around the arms (collar area) that a base g8 doesn't seem to have. Being the complete pleb that I am when it comes to technical stuff like this, could I please get some help in transfering head only? Not sure if it works the same as it does with a full body transfer especially since my g3 char has a multitude of other characters mixed and mashed together.

This worked good for me today, thanks! yes

  • Is there an actual Transfer Utility program, or is it the various tutorials listed above? I'm assuming with Redz' file, I replace the G3 character with the one I want to transfer, and then alter the G8F model until I can't see any more grey showing. Needless to say, though, I'd like to be able to point and click, if only because I've got a few I need to transfer, and limited time available. *grin* (I'll take the time, if necessary, but if there's an easier way...)

Any idea what's causing this particular error?

It's your Toon Generations 2 set.  Either a file got deleted or got corrupted somehow.  If you reinstall that set and have it override the files that are already there, it should fix the issue.

That explains a lot. I don't even have Toon Generations 2. It wasn't on my RADAR, apparently.

Is there a version of this excellent tutorial and helper scene/morphs for transfering character morphs from G8 to G3? I have a character I made that I want to transfer to G3. I have more content for G3 so I really would love to have her for G3 also. Thanks in advance for any help with this! heart

Edit: I just tried the tutorial above with the helper scene, but I did everything reveresed, when it said G3 I choose G8. When I try morphloader pro I get this error: Warning: Geometry did not match, failed to create morph. I got the same error with my previous try with  SickleYield's tutorial here:https://www.deviantart.com/sickleyield/journal/Tutorial-Transferring-Character-Morphs-G1G2G3G8-409437916. The character I'm trying to transfer is one of my own Lara characters made with different morphs.

Sorry to write another post about this but I thought that if I edit my post above no one will see that and hopefully reply if I just edit. I managed to transfer my Lara from G8 to G3 using the tutorial linked to above in reverse, using G8 every time it says G3 and so on. I set the resolution to base and the subdivision to 0 to both figures. It worked but the arms is really distorted: .

I have adjusted rigging to shape and used erc freeze. Please is there anyone who can help me get my Lara transfered without this error? I can't use her in anything else than a head portrait  without putting her in really bulky jacket or something sad
