Using A G3 specific shader on G8 without the base texture

Hi all!

A while ago I asked around here on how to use a Genesis 3 specific shader on Genesis 8. As posted by a member here, just saving the applied shader on G3 as a material preset does the trick. However, that also saves the base texture underneath the applied shader. So in this case when I apply this saved material preset to G8, it also applies the V7 texture to G8. Now I have to go into the Surfaces menu and swap that base texture out for a G8 one for each of the surfaces... Is there a way to save that material preset without the actual textures, so that it will only apply the shader and I can use it on a G8 texture too?

Thanks a lot,

Me

  • Yeah, you do it the same way you saved the material preset already. Look at the options.

You can also load a G8 texture and ctrl-click the G3 texture to bring up options for loading, one of which will include leaving the textures as-is.

  • In the options dialogue, when saving, you can use the menu button to check o0nly values and not maps. Or when applying you can hold down the ctrl(Win)/cmd(Mac) key and in the dialogue select Ignore for maps.

  • Thanks a lot!!!
