if this dont exist. It should because sometimes my preveiw window gets stuck in limbo calucating the scene and theres no way to stop it.
really bothers me because i'll get very invested in a scene, forget to save and the preveiw window gets stuck and i have to ctrl alt delete my way out of the program.
I've lost count of how many times the preveiw window has crashed Daz.. its super super unstable. It should be able to detect its cycling loop and stop the preveiw... Or at the very least, Correct it...

Can't you just switch to another mode -cmd/ctrl plus a number key will switch (cmd/ctrl 9 is texture shaded). Unfortunately if it's really stuck then neither that nor anything else is likely to work.
In my experience, while it may take a few seconds to recalculate, I just switch to another preview mode and it ends. Might be a good idea to get used to saving before hitting the preview, it's what I do.
If we are talking new features, I'd love a preview spot render feature. Where you define a spot render area like now, only that small window works like an interactive preview and only reads the resources in that window.
yeah iray relly needs a stop button for the preveiw window. it gets stuck and the only way to stop it is to click in the interface window, but clicking in the interface window freezes the program
What version of DS are you using? I used to experience the same but have not had it happen with latest version of 4.10. I also upgraded my Nvidia drivers around the same time I installed 4.10 so it could have been that as well.
no its not the version, nor the cards. its happened on multiple cards, multiple computers, multiple versions of daz, by me and multiple fiends. its a problem with the render window. has nothing to do with drivers, graphics cards, or versions of daz. it starts to calculate the scene and if you bump something or move something there is a small chance that it may lock up and never get out of smoothed shadered veiw.
Are you using CPU or GPU rendering? If the CPU is maxed out, try setting aside one or two cores (assuming Windows: Task Manager, Details, right click on DAZ Studio.exe, Set Affinity) to keep some CPU cycles available for other stuff, like mouse and keyboard inputs. Before I got an Nvidia card, that would happen all the time with Iray, but I still keep two cores available since 3Delight will use all CPU resources anyway.
Setting the max time and/or the max samples to 3-10 in the render settings panel should be enough to prevent the viewport to lock-up. Of course this way you may not have a great preview depending on your card. But usually just the first samples are good enough for a rought preview.
If the scene is very heavy and you have a low-end card then I'm afraid the only way is to use opengl instead.
