Overloading my OneDrive Cloud!!!

Why is DAZ overloading my OneDrive Cloud space? I only have about five gigabytes on there and the things I'm loading into DAZ Studio seems to be going there. I can't afford to buy more space on OneDrive. I've never seen it do this before. Can I move that stuff off off of the cloud? is this something that Windows 10 is doing? This is NOT good!

I don't know how one configures OneDrive, but it sounds like one of your DS content locations is being backed up/mirrored there.

I just discovered that everythinng that went onto the cloud is from the items I instsalled through Connect. I moved the files off the cloud and saved them in a folder on my desktop just to see what would happen and when I went back into DAZ Studio and worked off-line, everything that I installed from Connect disappeared. I guess I will never use Connect ever again. It seemed like an easy way to install, but it's causing major problems. Oh well, live and learn!

You can move DAZ Studio content to any folder you like, BUT, you must notify DAZ Studio of the new location by using Content Directory Manager.

You can set what folder you want everything installed into, for connect it's in the preferences menu. I personally only use connect for the very few items I have that are connect only, I use DIM for everything g else. If you use connect to install something that was already installed with DIM then you wind up with two copies of the same files. It's why I killed 99% of connect installed items on my machine.

I normally use DIM for everything, but I was trying to get things onto my new computer and I've had a few stumbling blocks. I hope I never have to use Connect again.

My Contact Directory Manager is missing. When I click on the menu for it, nothing comes up. I think it's missing in my DAZ system files or something.

One question, can these Connect files be diverted to an external hard drive? I've never tried that, but I'm a little reluctant to try, in case I screw up DAZ Studio again. It's been a long journey getting it back up to normal.

Yeah, everything in Daz can be diverted to an external, including the program files.  That's how I've got mine set up, everything goes to an external.  The first post on this page is describing how I installed everything:  https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/195101/can-i-skip-or-kill-daz-connect-which-sucks-btw/p4

melanie, DAZ installs to what is called "Default locations". It will also install on Default Locations if you use DIM, unless you tell it otherwise. You will have to tell it in both, the Content Directory Manager and DIM, that you are using a different location to download and install the content.

Your CMS is probably missing because it's also stored in that defaul location. I'd recommend you check out the paths in the DS settings and see if the path given there is the one to your google drive.

Otherwise, dragontx's link is a good source.

Did you reinstall DS to get those missing files back? You can store everything including installing DS to an external drive. If you want to move Connect then you need to do it through Content Directory Manager. Just point it to the new location

I got my Contact Directory Manager back. I had some missing items in the program files.

Now that I know I can safely divert everything to an external drive, I'll do that. The problem with clouds is that they can eventually disappear. I used to have cloud space on Amazon, but they discontinued the cloud service and I had to remove anything I had stored there, so I don't trust couds. Maybe DAZ needs to know that so it won't automatically default to cloud space.

Thank you, Dragotx, this is helpful. For the time being, I especially want to divert anything installed thorugh Connect to go to the external hard drive. I may move everything else later on, but I just don't want anything going to my cloud. I have a character that was Connect only, not even a manual download button. I have him on my old computer, but I would like him on my new one. If I can divert any Connect installations to the external hard drive, that would be a huge help.

    Thanks for your assistance.

  • If you have the One Drive folder set as your Documents folder, or synching your Documents folder, then it will get teh Connect-installed content as, by default, the Connect folder is in your Documents folder. This isn't a fault of the system or a reason not to use it, if you don't want to use the space (and I have never included content in my regular back-ups, it is too big) just chnage the diectory used and move any existing content to the new location.

I'm confused. Is OneDrive a part of DAZ Connect?!

No, OneDrive is Microsoft's version of dropBox/Google drive/iCloud (if that's the Apple thing). If you sign into Windows 10 with a Microsoft ID (rather than using a local account) I think it is on automatically and set up to sync the documents folder to the cloud - which will catch the default location for the Connect folder.

Richard, thanks for the tip. I've gone in and disconnected OneDrive. That will be a big help. Now I just need to redirect DAZ Studio to recognize another place for any Connect items that I have. I don't want to use Connect if I can help it, but I did find one character in my Product Library that is Connect only, so there's no other way I can get him into DAZ Studio.

Happy to be of service.  I didn't have the cloud issue, but I did run into problems with Daz installing connect to my C: drive, which is only 256gb.  So I had to figure out how to get it all moved to a bigger house
