No CMS after Beta update

Can anyone help me please
Everything was working fine until I updated the 4.10 Beta, now I have no CMS at all. I tried Starting the CMS but nothing happens. Nothing appears in Task Manager either. (Sorry can't think of the name of the files)
I can't get the Metadata to reinstall, it says it has but after running for just 1 minute I don't think it has. Usually takes quite a while.
I don't use Smart Content much, just the Poses, but I need it when I add Metadata to any of my Free items. I can't check to see if it's working oK or not.

First close DS. Then in your Start Menu folder for Daz 3D there should be shortcuts to Start/Stop Content Management Service. Try those to see if it helps. When you reopen DS you can use the Task Manager to see if there are any PostgreSQL instances running. If there aren't then there's a problem.
If you use a Mac I'm afraid you'll have to figure out the equivalents because I don't have one of those.
Same happend to me. I got it solved by fully resetting the database.....(save your home grown content first) and then restart the database and reimport the metadata (which can throw a "This might take more then a cup of coffee" error that can be solved by patience (a fair amount of it). That solved 90% of the problem.....some content had to be reinstalled. Took me about 3 hours to get things up and running again, more or less.....I still find some caveats now and then (mostly in my home grown content, even with a backup), but they are few and far between. Now I have my content not on my C: drive maybe that could be the culprit.....I noticed that transfered files (older) that had started life on C and were transfered to a new and much roomier home on a 2 TB DAZ drive were more amoung the MIA's then newer content that was installed on this drive in the first place. Also the DAZ internal downloadable content got mangled quit a bit. It was a fun challenge......

Tose shortcuts are from Valentina, which DS 4.9+ does not use. PostgreSQL isn't a service, it's just launched by DS/DIM/Carrara as needed - that can cause issues if an application that was using PostgreSQL is closed just before another is launched as the shutdown signal causes the database to vanish after the new application has passed its chance to start it. Security software is also a suspect. Make sur you really do have PostgreSQL installed, too.
Those shortcuts are not for Valentina. They are for the Daz Content Management Service. The service is NOT the database. AFAIK DS/DIM/Carrara use the service to start/stop PostgreSQL rather than doing it directly, which would probably cause issues when sharing a database between 2 or more applications.
Well, I have DS 4.9 and PostgreSQL installed and working on my computer (Windows 7 pro) and those shortcuts do not appear in my start menu.
I suppose it's legacy stuff from earlier versions of Studio. I have Start Menu\Programs\DAZ 3D\DAZ Content Management Service folder with those items and a shortcut for "Uninstall DAZ Content Management Service". If I open services.msc I see Daz Content Management Service is installed and running with a startup type of "Automatic (Delayed Start)". Those shortcuts start and stop this service.
Looks like if I stop the service it has no effect on DS accessing Smart Content and PostgreSQL is started. I thought DS wouldn't have left that in there when it switched to PGSQL if it wasn't being used. Guess I need to uninstall it myself.
Sorry for causing confusion!
Actually Daz could have avoided some of these problems if they HAD used a service to control starting and stopping PostgreSQL like I thought they had. Oh well.
Update: I uninstalled the stupid unnecessary service even though I got a scary warning.
DS and DIM still work fine.
Do I need to reinstall PostgreQSL? If so how can I get Dim to install it? It keeps on failing to install, even though I have changed nothing.
the CMS database etc are all still there.
Search for "postgresql" in DIM. Uninstall and then Install should do it. No guarantees that will fix your problem though. It does kind of sound like you might have a corrupted database so the only option would be ContentDB Maintenance/Reset Database followed by Re-Import Metadata.
Thanks rested but I’ve already rest database, but metadata doesn’t install.
Sorry for wrong words, my iPad changed them.
Check to make sure you actually have a mapped content directory in Content Library. I guess that could have gotten changed/set to default in some fashion which would cause there to be no metadata to import.

On the last page of the thread...I had the same problem and Doctor Jellybean gave me several things to try. The last suggestion worked. Hope this helps you too!
All mapped content libraries are as they should be.
Well cross your fingers and restart Windows is the last suggestion I have. Hopefully somone with a better brain than me might have different suggestions :(
I've restarted Windows and Daz Studio several times now and still no CMS.
I tried installing PostgreSQL but it says Install Failed.
Just to make sure: You did try to UNinstall PostegreSQL before installing it? Maybe if you uninstall and then delete the local zip to force it to download again?
If PostgreSQL isn't running and not visible in the Task Manager then doing anything with the ContentDB will just fail of course. Maybe some kind of weird permission issue. I always run DIM as administrator but I have seen people advise NOT to do that so I am a bit confused on that.
Oops it's not a zip: https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files#prod_18869
Maybe just try downloading the .exe and running it yourself. Or if you've been doing that maybe try with DIM.
The Contentn Management System uses a database - Valentina originally, for which those shortcuts were made, and PostgreSQL since 4.6 (or possibly 4.7) for which they don't work. DS has used PostgreSQL, if available, sicne it was first integrated and stopped supporting Valentina at all in 4.9.x.x and later.
Downloaded the zip file for PostgreSQL and installed it. Worked ok, although some of the metadata hasn’t been picked up. Will reinstall that tomorrow.
thanks for everyone’s help
...I'm still having difficulty with it working in 4.9.4 It shows up in Task Manager with a "running" status. In the Daz preferences tab It shows the port number, but none of the highlighting appears in the content tab. Worked fine in 4,8. I installed 4.9.4 with the manual installer as my work system does not have net access and there were no errors during the process.
I get a CMS warning on startup occasionally since using the beta and again after installing the update. So far, just closing DS and re-starting it seems to get everything back to normal. I don't think that is the same as described in the OP though.
I think part of my confusion came from the acronyms. Daz Content Management Service referred to as CMS and then PostgreSQL Content Management System also referred to as CMS.
Glad you got it sorted, at least mostly sorted.
The Content Management System is Daz Studio using an external database ot catalogue and categorise content, so I'm not sure what distinction you are drawing between the CMS and the database engine driving it.
Just forget it.
It looks like Postgres (the CMS) crashes periodically in 4.10 and leaves the postmaster.pid file in place. This, in turn, causes the CMS to refuse to start. On macOS, that file will be in /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/DAZ 3D/cms/ContentCluster/.
Make sure that "postgres" is not running before you delete the "postmaster.pid" file!! Bad things will happen if more than one copy of the CMS is runs.
