I need a salad prop for Poser
in The Commons
Hi! I need a Salad prop for Poser, same the one is here:
https://www.sharecg.com/v/25664/related/5/3D-Model/FRENCH-SALAD#commentAnchor
This one is an obj and when I import it into Poser, it doesn't go with the Textures, so this doesn't work for me. Do you know where can I find something similar for Poser or do you have any idea how to convert it into a Prop using these textures.
Thank you for your help.

In Daz you can manually add the textures to an Obj by going to the Surfaces tab and navigating to the Obj's texture maps where ever you downloaded them - Does Poser have that ability as well?
Yes, in the Material room, you can add textures, but in this obj it doesn't work. That's why I need help. I'd like to convert it into a Poser Prop. Could you help me with that?
I don't have Poser, I only have Daz. Is there a way to do that in Daz? If so I'd be happy to help! :)
Are there texture maps in the zip file? Is there an .mtl file with the .obj file? If there are both texture maps and a .mtl file and if all are in the same folder as the .obj file, when you import the object it should automatically apply the texture maps. I'm not sure, though as I don't have/use Poser, but I know that will work in daz.
I tried to import it into Daz and it's the same situation, it doesn't go with the Textures and I can't add them either, that's why I'd like to convert it into a Poser Prop, but I don't figure out how to do it. Or at least if I can find another model similar, could help me too :(
It has .jpg textures, should it convert them into .mtl files?
No. Usually when an object file is exported from a modeling program it has a .mtl file with it that has the same file name. And in my experience that somehow allows the object file to read the texture files that are in the same folder.
Edit: Ok. I dl that salad from your link and looked at it myself, it doesn't have the .mtl file I'm talking about. I could probably open it up in Blender and re-export it so it has the .mtl file, but the usage rights say it's for non-commercial use only, so I don't think I'd legally be able to upload a slightly different version for you to use.
What I would suggest is that you import it into Poser as it is now, and then export as an .obj and that should create a .mtl file associated with the object and then you could re-import the new .obj back into Poser for your own personal use. Then you should be able to use the texture files correctly.
If the textures are not applying, that implies that the UV maps are messed up (maybe even deleted) during the import or export operation. Have you tried importing the 3DS object instead?, since Poser can import these as well.
They are in the same folder, but the textures don't load, only the obj is imported without the textures.
Yes, it worked better, althouth it has some part that aren't textured, it work better. I think I can used it like this. Thank you for the advice. ;D
I downloaded and brought it into Daz, and yeah, there are no material zones created for it, it's just one solid OBJ. When one switches to UV view in Daz it comes up empty, so there's no UV to add texture maps to. Sorry. :( It might be quite a bit of work to create a UV for it - I have no idea how to do that.
Yes, thank you. I tried to import it as a .3ds file into Poser and it worked better. I think I'll use like this. Thank you anyway for being interested in help me! ;D
Yeah. I just opened the obj in Blender and none of the parts even have materials assigned to them. It's no wonder the textures don't work.
Import it into Poser as 3ds file works better, althought there is some parts aren't textured either. But I think it'd be easier to fix those parts in the Material Room.
I'm glad you got it to work. :)
Here is how it's imported as 3ds file into Poser.
does not look too bad, but I don't think a french salad contains black cabbage!
Try using the UV displacement in Poser to shift the textures left/right and up/down.
Check out Dining Pleasure by Dirtypots at the 'R' site that isn't Renderosity. It consists of food items including a similar salad.
Edit: I sent you a PM with thhe link
I had a quick go at the lettuce part of a salad
used this image for texture https://morguefile.com/photos/morguefile/4/salad/pop
https://morguefile.com/license
rendering it as a texture on a 3D object should count as altering the image and it is altered in that it is baked from polypaint in Zbrush where I made it by projection painting so only the bits painted actually appear on it
I am not terribly good at setting up Poser files but there is an obj in geometries as well as a pp2
The obect is UV mapped and includes textures, they ust aren't of any use with it having only one default material zone.
mine is a separate bed of leaves not related to that model BYO croutons
The salad model is fine, just the material zones are grouped which shows as one material zone in many apps. Here is an ungrouped OBJ imported and rendered in Iray.
