Genesis 3 to Genesis 8 clothes compatibilitym

Hi all,

I don't want to start another complaints thread, but simply list what does not work.

With upcoming sales one might be tempted to pick up clothes for G3F assuming they will work on G8F because of the announced compatibility, only to find out they don't.

Shoes are an issue, G3F ones with heels don't work.

The H&C Business Suit for Genesis 3 Female(s) does not work at all on G8 - no way to fit the pants.

Wild Wind for Genesis 3 Female(s) works, but crashes a lot when loading.

And, very  unfortunately,

    Please add your findings.

    Hi @bohlien.

It has been my experience that shoes seldom work from one generation to another. The exception is between G3 and G8 with "flat" shoes.

It does seem a bit confusing to use auto-fit and not see the breakdown we are used to seeing, such as "Pants,"  but Full-Body should work just fine for those.

The thing is, the G3F and G8F are very much alike, in many ways. If you're willing to put in a bit of work, you can make almost all of the G3F wardrobe work with G8F, including some of the high heels. Same goes for the G3F hair. Try the following tutorial on your Geneva Hair, and you'll find it works exactly the same on G8F.

This tutorial is from Sickleyield. She's a really good teacher, as well as one of Daz's vendors. Convert Clothing G3 to G8, G8 to G3. This only works between the G3F and G8F, because of how similar they are. (It might work between G3M and G8M, but we won't know until G8M is released.)

Following these instructions, I've made nearly all of my G3F hair work with G8F. I say nearly, because I've got three or four more to go. (The ones with addons, like Dolly Changeable Hair, are a bit trickier with multiple pieces, so I left them for last.)

(Once you've given the tutorial a try and are feeling confident, let me know, and I'll share my secret for fitting high-heeled shoes that goes a bit beyond Sy's tutorial.)

I will try that and report back here, thank you!

Hair works perfectly (meaning, I pair it to the head bone.), but thanks for the heads up on the clothes.

...I thought one of the major selling points was ease of compatibility with older generations of Genesis. Why then are we now being told we need a workaround?

Also, one thing I do notice that when using autofit with G8, it only has three selections:  Hair, Dress, and Full Body.

  • You don't need a workaround, autofit works fine. Just, like normal, shoes are broken and if you want them to be nice you are better off following SickleYield's tutorial.

Autofit works as well as it ever has, which means it isn't perfect. One of the Daz folks in the know explained why there aren't as many options in the drop-down for G8. It has something to do with the newest versions of DS being able to use more data from the clothing, (I want to say "poses," but I'm not sure that's right.) Because more of the data from the original item is being passed over, autofit doesn't need as many options.

Folllowing Sy's tutorial makes it possible to use a lot of G3 clothing on G8, (and vice-versa,) without using autofit. Extra bones for style and movement are preserved this way, but not everything has extra bones. If you use autofit and find the clothing item has lost functionality, (some or all dials do nothing,) it's a good time to use Sy's method instead.

..ah, so in a sense they made it a bit "smarter" and streamlined things.  I thought it has something do do with the fact I am unable get the CMS to work (one of the issues I heard about early on which caused me to hold off on updating to 4.9.4).
