how would you render for 3d cardboard glasses?

i imaginf would need 2 renders to shift the perspective for each eye ?

this view master thing been out since i was a kid. ancient technology lol but how they make the images?

You're exactly right. What you need is two cameras positioned about the same distance apart as your eyes (6.5 cm is normal). Point them both at the same 3d point in the scene that you want to be the main focus. Then render from both. If you want it to be a single image that works with the red and blue glasses you have to do post-processing to combine the channels.
