All I have to say about this product is... ABSOLUTELY WOW!!! Why did it take so long to get this out? I was looking for this since Iray came out. Spent so much money on different skies but never really got what I wanted. Now it's here! :-)

All I wish now is the same collection with night skies, with a nice full moon. :-)

That many Terragen renders takes a loooooong time. 16K too, holy mackerel.

They look great but I'm having trouble downloading ..tried 3 times and slows to a crawl...glad to read they'e everything you hoped they would be and I can't wait to try them.

  • I am very happy with my first renders. Yes, it takes a lot of time to download. Many GB's, I just looked at one single file and that's more than 200 MB! Since there are 26 different files for each sky, it makes about 5 GB for each sky type. I am still downloading... It's worth waiting! I love them! :-)

Well that explains it.. .;)  Crawling to 60% and I can't wait to try them out before I fall asleep .

  • You can start trying them. Some files that are already downloaded are ready to go. Try one of the first skies. You'll find them under "Light Presets - Denki Gaka - IBL Sky".

  • As if I need anymore HDRIs, skies, etc. but these do look really beautiful. I've never worked with skydomes before. I'll assume they are similar to HDRIs in the render tab but the skydomes are giant spheres "in scene" rather than being a render setting?

These are not skydomes. These are HDR files that go in the render tab. I love the way they are organized. In different degrees, with the right light color for that sun angle. I really like them.

  • Ah, I see, thank for the clarification. So they use the sun/sky mode it seems.

Nope! No sun/sky mode. Dome/Scene mode, it uses just the hdr map. The map is giving the right light to the scene.

Awesome. Anxious to play with these. Thanks for the info.
  • Since they are an HDRI, do they have a ground?   I just want the sky aspect, basically a 180 degree dome with no ground, so I can use them with Terradome 3 or Iray Worlds

I just started doing test renders with them and so far all have a ground plane.

I have to say these skies look great just with a test render. The sunset/sunrise skies are gorgeous. I have noticed Iray doesn't like me adjusting them in preview mode unless I set it to Memory instead of Speed which is no issue for me. But I also don't have a giant monster of a computer to handle a lot of 'abuse'.

  • Snapped these up! They...are...AWESOME.

They have a ground plane - I thought they were just HDRIs that went into the environment slot of the render tab, I didn't realise that they were an actual prop, hope I can use them how I want, just for lighting without too much fiddling around.

These are HDRIs therre is nothing loaded into the scene only into the render settings tab - so no ground plane.

My apologies, no ground plane. Poor choice of words on my part. I misunderstood Twitch99. I don't even know how to say what I thought they were asking without it sounding even more confusing. Lol I think the skies are set up similar to the Terradome skies, ie. no buildings, tree lines, etc. Just a sky...beautiful skies at that.

Looks good - no compression artifacts which is quite common with skies (well, maybe the forum creates some, it compresses the images AFAIK). The grey land below the horizon is part of the HDR.

I bought these and my terminalogy may have been confusing.  They do not add a "ground plane" in the sense of a prop or primitive, but when rendered as shown in Toaz psot, the area not covered by the castle and associated area renders as gray.

It looks like any prop located in the scene will over write the HDRI "ground" in the render.

You can always try the Render Settings>Environment>Draw Ground: Off setting.

  • Any suggestions for a favorite?  I'm currently money limited and won't get the full set ... if you could only have one (thinking of scattered clouds)

Wow, that's a tough choice. My personal faves are high clouds and horsetails, but I really love them all. ;)

TerraLUNA 3 has a nice Moon object, along with several night skies. It was developed for TerraDome 3 Iray, but works as a standalone. Also, if you don't mind using Iray Uber Base, DC: GlowMoon works very well, and makes a nice inexpensive alternative.

The TerraDome 3 ground objects will hide any ground aspect of the HDRI. In fact, the skies included with TerraDome 3 have grounds.
