Upgrade old computer

Using Daz studio have gotten me to realize that my old computer is not completly up for the task any more.

It consist of:

I5 3570k

8GB ram

GTX670 2GB

EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750W

256GB ssd

Option1:

Uppgrade with a GTX1080ti

Option 2:

Uppgrade new cpu, motherboard, 16GB ram and a GTX1060/GTX1070

What would be the best upgrade for shortning rendering times and keeping the lag of viewpoint when loading complex enviroments?

I know the current cpu would hold back the GTX1080ti when playing games but would it be the same problem when it comes to Daz studio?

Thanks in advance

Best money for Iray performance will be the GTX 1080 Ti.  You'll probably need more memory though - that's where you gotta decide whether to put toward your existing system or new.  Dunno that CPU, but it's probably fine and won't be a bottleneck with Iray.

    Thanks

I could pick up another 8GB ram of the same brand if the still are avaible. Or maybe hoping that the gtx1080ti will be a sufficient bost until I will uppgrade the rest of the system?

Depends on your use in Daz studio, 8 GB is probably pretty light.  I typically render a good amount of stuff and multitask, I started with 16GB and was running out.  I used other 3D apps before using Studio though.

GTX 1080 Ti will be a very good boost.  Great for games too, if you do that.

    ...in a similar boat.

    I7 930 2.8 GHz 4 cores/8 threads.
    ASUS P6T X58 MB
    12 GB DDR3 1333 tri channel Memory
    GT 460 1GB GDDR5
    Corasair TX 750 750W PSU
250 GB 7200 RPM HDD (Boot)
    1 TB 7200 RPM HDD (Library/Runtime)
    Win7 Home edition

I am primarily looking to upgrade to 24 GB however as it is DDR3 memory it is becoming difficult to find a tri channel kit.  For a while (when I didn't have the resoruces) 24 GB kits of DDR3 1333 were pretty inexpensive (around 120$) but lately have shot up to near or over 200$ depending on vendor and there are only a few to choose from. I also have to purchase a W7 Pro OEM which is an additional 60 - 150$ expense depending on vendor (and I need the actual DVD, it cannot be an online install as the system has no Net connection).

It would be nice to get a better GPU card, however I tend to create fairly involved scenes that even challenge a 1070's/1080's.VRAM.  The 1080 TI would be ideal even though the espansion slots are PCI 2.0 x 16 (which would tanslate to the scene takinga bit longer to load into VRAM but wouldn't affect the actual render process) but with the memory upgrade I'm looking at would be juse under a 1,000$ expense.

As I am on a fixed retirement income, To build a new system, particularly one like I am playing around with configuring, would require a reasonable windfall.

There are users who have a 1070 in a Core 2 Quad with like 6gb system RAM and get fantastic results. Like just as fast as brand new PC with a 1070 results. So with that in mind, your PC is probably just fine for adding a 1080ti, and it would be far more effective than building a new machine with a lesser GPU. I would try it out. Then if you really do need more RAM you can always find it. I would save the RAM for only if needed because RAM prices are going up due to a global shortage. It may be a while before they go back down.

If your concern is viewport lag as you say, before considering hardware solutions I'd make sure you're using the optimum View (?) settings. It can make a HUGE difference, and caused me to re-think a GPU upgrade. Theres a recent thread here discussing that

I just googled OP's CPU.  It will do just fine.  I have a CPU that scores less, an AMD FX-8320 that renders fine with two Hybrid 1080 Tis.

    http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-3570K-vs-AMD-FX-8320/1316vs1983

In fact, that system will outpace my i7-6700k with two Titan X's.  Those are longer renders of course.  I notice that system takes longer to open scenes, and longer to start rendering.

Mats76's video card is way too underpowered with only 2GB of VRAM except for very, very, basic Iray renders.

Thanks you everybody for the advices, a GTX1080ti it will be.

The gtx670 was supposed to be replaced years ago but it has been hanging on ok for gaming until about a year ago, now using Daz it is finally time to replace it.

...that makes sense for DDR4.  I've seen a 128 GB DDR4 2400 kit  go from around 950$ to over 1,200$ in the last couple months.  Still not sure why that should affect DDR3 which is old tech.

...since your system is older,  I take it you are working with Win7, correct?
