New UV maps

Let's say I created new uv zones so I can texture a skin in Substance Painter. I import the new the UV and texture and select the new UV set instead, for example, Genesis 8 Female uv. Where I'm a little unsure is what if I wanted t make said texture/uv available for sale? Do I need to somehow convert my new UV zones/set back to the Genesis 8 zones. Or am I way off base and overthinking this?

No, you don't have to convert your UVs back, they would be custom UVs. But you'd break compatibility with tools that depend on the G8 UV-mapping, like https://www.daz3d.com/ultimate-make-up-for-genesis-8-female-s

  • It would depend on how much mapping you did - simply rearranging the UDIMs onto a single UV square by moving and scaling them wouldn't be allowed, snce it's essentially the default UV set, but a true remap would be distributable. Supplying a chnaged set of surfaces, however, might include too much of the geometry in the file.
