M4/V4

Do you have to do something special to get these figures to show up in DS? I installed the base and the morphs through DIM, but I'm not getting them showing up in DS. On my old pc there were icons in Smart Content to load them. But I can't even find them in the Content Library. I can see where files were installed. But I just can't find them in DS.

Check the Poser Formats under "Figures" and "Daz People" under Content (not Smart Content). They should be in there.

  • Assuming you used standard install paths, In DS Content Library: Poser Format > My DAZ 3D Library > Figures > DAZ People > Victoria 4.2 (or Michael 4)

I see M4/V4 in Smart Content, they should under Figures/People.

I also installed M4/V4 using DIM

Thanks. I figured it out. I added my Dim content to the Daz section of the content management. I didn't realize that I also needed to add it to the poser section as well. Once I did that, they showed up. And I did get an icon for them in Smart Content. Cound have saved myself some installing if I had caught that earlier.

I found a tutorial for creating Smart icons for items that don't have them. If I create some, I won't be messing anything up when there are updates and things. Will I?

And what if an item you want to create a smart icon for is in the Lost and found? Can you still create it or will the path change if DAZ finds it at some later point.

    Thanks again.

Is there a way to get all of your M4 and V4 stuff to show up in smart content when you highlight the model.  I've tried, but I usually have to use a text filter.  Some stuff shows up without a text filter, but most do not.

    Manually create metadata for it.

Not all the older stuff has the needed metadata for it to show in Smart Content.  Also make sure that you have the latest versions of that content, because some of it did get the needed metadata, but may not have had a 'publicized' update notice about it.

I bought most of the stuff recently, so if it had updated metadata, I think I would have it.  I've catorgorized the stuff, so I'll look into creating metadata.  Lot of work.

You may have bought them recently, but most M4/V4 items were released way before DAZ introduced Smart Content and metadata in DS4, so unlesss they were updated specifically to add the metadata afterwards they will not have them.

So where would I find that out?

To be honest I never used smart content, when it was introduced I had tons of content which wouldn't show there and "metadata-izing" all that would have been way too much work.

There's probably a file in the package which stores the metadata but I'm not sure which one it would be. Something in the Support folder I suppose. Maybe you could see that on the readme page for the product?

Open the zip file for the particular package (eg: IM00004783-01_Victoria42Base.zip for V4), then look in Content/Runtime/Support.

If this directory is missing, or empty, then that product has no metadata for SmartContent, which is the case for the majority of M4/V4 products and older.

However for V4 base there is some Smart Content that adds herself, and her base poses, to the relevant sections.

    Thanks.  I'll look for that.

I find it is worth giving DAZ's 4th generation figures theirown libraryto live in.  Any new content for them will most likely be coming from other sites and not have meta data for Smart Content.  Putting them in their own library makes it easier to work with them from Content Library pane.

Mine pretty much live in my Poser Debut downloads folder.  Mostly.
