I suppose he's about as well known to the current generation as Kate Smith is, (look her up) but for us people of the ancient persuasion he was at times ridiculous, goofy, nuts, generous, caring, blustering or arrogant.  But he was part of our lives and times.

    I think his most serious role was that of the MC for the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon years ago.

    Oh goodness, I hadn't heard (but not been on other sites today, just rendering.)  He did SO much for charity, a very generous man. RIP Jerry.

    I am a huge fan of his comedy.  He had a lot of great movies.  Some of my absolute favorites starred Jerry Lewis.  He will always be remembered.

    Jerry did great work for charity but IMO he was painfully unfunny as a comedian. He shouldn't have tried so hard to be funny and his comedy might have worked much better.

    IMO, his best movie role was in Scorsese's King of Comedy.

    I remember reading somewhere that he had an experience which prompted him to start doing charity work, but he would never tell anyone what it was.

    Thank you for funny childhood memories, Mr. Lewis. Looking foreward now to the following tv program. Rest in Peace  and please don't take your comedy with you. Humor is so much urgentley needed today.

    Watching the telethon every Labor Day weekend is a childhood memory of mine. It helped to inspire my own dedication to charities and causes that I believe in. And I think several Jerry Lewis' films are not only funny but very well crafted comedies. I'm grateful to have experienced them.

    I loved all the old Lewis and Martin comedies.  And, I loved Lewis' later work like "Geisha Boy" and others.  Of course, "The Nutty Professor" is a classic that Eddie Murphy didn't quite manage to best.  I can remember watching all those old movies on channel 11 during the all day movies every Saturday.
