I can't remember what it's called, but.....
in The Commons
I know I'm going to regret asking what is probably a very simple thing to do, but anway.
You know when you want to change the parent of something, a new panel opens showing what looks like a family tree for everything in your scene,
well, is there any way to have the panel open with all the trees closed with just the headings showing, so you only have to open the one you need, rather than everything being expanded and having to hunt for ages
for the little single item you want.
Hope someone can help here, and sorry for maybe appearing thick.

not noticed a way;
... try right clicking and see if option to collapse all. (Doesn't work.)
also try Home to get to the top then close them. (Works.)
Oh. Okay, will give it a go. Strange really, because you expand and contract them elsewhere.

Do you mean like this? Using Expand Selected will then expand from the thigh.
I select the body part in the 3d view window and it will open the part of the hierarchy where the selection is and then you expand from there. If you instead select the foot, it will open the major headers drilling down to the foot and then you expand selected to see the parts of the foot. All the minor headers remain closed.
If this is what you mean.
Hierarchy. Yes that's the word I was looking for. But no, I know about the 3D view bit, it is when you right click in the view window and ask for change of parent, then another window opens showing you an open Hierarchy of everything in your scene. This can amount to hundreds of things in one go. That Expand and Collapse, is what is needed in the window I'm talking about. As "nicstt" said, the best thing I can do is go to the top of the list where it is easier to shut things down that I don't want.
Thanks all the same.

You can drag-and-drop in the Scene pane, rather than using the Change Parent dialogue - the Parent in Place setting is in the Sceen pane option menu.
Well, I never knew that. Thanks alot.
