Real Eyebrows vs. Wow Brow ?

Looking at both tools  They appear to do the same thing.  But, I'd like any opinions on how well each one works.  I don't really want to buy both if I don't have to.

Anyone have experience using either product or both?  If both, which one do you prefer?

Thanks.

Hmmm....just went back and reread both descriptions....Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.  Wow Brow is for making new eyebrow textures...whereas Real Eyebrows is for making fiber hair 3D eyebrows.

Not sure where I got the idea that Wow Brow did the same thing.  Is there another plugin similar to Real Eyebrows that I might be thinking of?

Anyway, the question is still pertinent.   If you use either or both products, let me know what you like and don't about them.  Thanks.

  • One more question:  If I buy Skinbuilder 3, do I need any or these products...and, do I need the Brow Remover?

It appears from the description that Skinbuilder 3 can swap eyebrows without needing the Remover.

  • I don't think Skin Builder can remove the brows from an existing texture, but you can choose not to add brows in SB and then use an alternative set or you can use SB to add brows to a texture.

Ah...that makes sense.  I didn't know if it generated the bump and displacement maps as well.  SB is on my list of must haves.  I just missed that last sale.  So, I hope to pick it up soon.  I don't have a problem with manually removing eyebrows from face textures with Photoshop.  But, I wondered if something like SB or Brow Remover auto removes the brow displacement and bump maps.  That might make it worth getting just to save some time.  Currently, I've been manually erasing the brows from face textures, then painting out the brow bump maps.

Of course, combining something like the browless texture from SB and adding the fiber hair brows from Real Brows, might make a really nice skin.  I'm still looking for current user input, though. :)

    Thanks.

It depends on whether or not you are using the base textures from SB3. If you use other textures, you will have to remove the eyebrows outside of SB3. But if you create the base skin, in the first tab on the left, you will be using the supplied MR skin textures and those do not have eyebrows.

@cdpro_2831bbd990, fiber mesh brows have their limitations as to how much you can change them. I have Oh My Brows, (from RedzStudio at Renderosity,) and they are very versatile. And I still want/have brows from other vendors, and will continue to get them when I can. Variety is important if you don't want all your people to look like close relatives! lol

I do not yet have Real Brows. I didn't realize they were fiber mesh when they were released and chose Wow Brow instead. Had I known, I'd have bought both of them at the same time I bought Brow Remover. Now I'm just waiting for Real Brows to go on sale at the same time I have money to spend.

Real Brows is part of the Lolita sale, right now.  It discounts to around $5 when stacked.  That's actually why I started this thread.  I just bought Wow Brow a few days beforehand...then saw this.

"But, I wondered if something like SB or Brow Remover auto removes the brow displacement and bump maps."

Brow Remover removes detail from all maps including normal maps if the skin has any. The script applies the mask logic and cycles through each map.

I have Zev0's brow product and like it, but still mostly manually remove my own; I was doing that prior to these products.

Plus when I'm using fibremesh brows which is almost always, I try leaving some skins with the brow on; bump, spec, SSS, normal - it varies what I try. Sometimes the results are better, and sometimes they are better just with fibremesh.

It's about finding the look you want, it wont always be the same.

One thing I like to do with Real Brows is make a custom shape to match the painted brows on the texture I'm using.  This is easy, you just have to take the bump or diffuse, mask the eyebrows and make them black and make everything else white. Then you take that B&W texteture into the "brow shaping tool" and it will create a custom shape and save it under the Real Eyebrows area. Then you can load it onto the character and you have painted brows AND mesh brows that match.  I do this for two reasons:  (1) For closeups I like the look of fiber brows and (2) the fiber brows give you great depth and realistic hairs but can look a little sparse / thin yet if they have the texture underneath it gives them a more full appearance (fills in the gaps).  This way you get the depth but still have full, thick brows that don't look like a few individual hairs only.

In the first pic below I used Skin Builder 3 to create a texture with brows and rendered it as-is.  The brows look great froma a distance but up close you can see they are flat.  Then I created a corresponding Real Eyebrows shape and added it on.

  • Cool....Thanks for the tips!  Zev0, thanks for clarifying.  That is helpful.

Also, the fiber and flat brow comparison does show the difference.  Looks like this could be a handy product.  Also, I think the images really sell SB3.  Great work!
