Opening a coat

I'm sure I'll need to use Hexagon or something for this, but don't know what specifically needs doing. Over at Rendo I just bought this outfit. But I want to be able to open the coat down to the belt, and while it has several morphs, that is not one of them. Can someone walk me through adding such a morph?

it seems depend on the mesh. if the mesh vertices are already merged (connected),unfortunately you can not make open morph . I feel the coat seems closed.
(then I carefully check mesh, untill I bought those clothing, when I hope to make open morph)
If you really hope to make it open, you need to make new clothing from original. n it is not easy without you have made some items already for daz fgiures.
I may separate faces, in blender, where which I hope to open ,first around open-close area, then export it to daz studio, and use Transfer Utility then transfer weight and rig from oritginal. it may cause UV problem about your new added mesh, but most of part may keep same UV and surface group. (if you know how it work well)
at least you need to know clear knowledge how TU work, and save them as new rig conformed figure for your base figure, correctly.
(it is not easy step , need lerning many at same time)
Depending on your goals, you may not need to modify the geometry. A transparency map may be applied to make a separable seam that can make the garmet appeat to be "open." How well this looks depends on the clothing article, the character's pose, and your intent. But it's a generally easier method that editing the geometry.
For the future: most PAs would consider open morphs for clothing to be a selling point, and will demonstrate at least some aspect of it in their promo images. If you don't see a shot of the garment open, it's a good clue such a morph doesn't exist. Also, Rendo allows you to download the readme file before purchasing. It will list all the included morphs.
You could fake it maybe, use two copies of the coat, hiding half of each with a trans map.
The rest of the outfit was such a perfect match for my needs that I was up for buying it without the morph. Having it open is just a (apperently really difficult) icing on it.
Yes the product is good looking, then You can keep your current hope as future plan, when you paly more.
those half zip type clothing is actually difficult to make open keep good product looking. even though you know how to manage texture well,
need many tweaking to add zip line correctly. or the clothing is simply torn, with breaking zip. (I may remove zip, and change texture, but it not keep product quarity at all)
If you have ZBrush you could use Goz to send it over from Daz - then use the topological move tool to pull the two sides apart. or if they are too close even for that, you could use polygroups to vis just one side while you pull it aprt then switch to the other. Once you've sculpted the shape you like you can send it back as a morph on the garment.
Yes It will work if mesh are actually separated, it not matter which app we use to make morph, even though vendor not offer morph, about thoes mesh we can easy make open morph.
but The problem is this product mesh are actually attached (connected) about area OP hope to open. (as my glance from product page, and it is design of the clothing^^;as default, it should not open,, but I hope to open too)
those things often happen about zip type or partially open clothings. or most of daz shirt never open withotu vendor separate mesh for the purpose.
some products are offered as two mesh. (one is closed (and maybe connected) one is opend as zip morph to keep good looking.
only a few product may offer good zip open morph, which can keep good shape with many morphed actor shape. ( though I seldom see such prodcut , it must need many professional work, need rigidty maps and may need to adjust zip postion correctly with open morph,, some vendor offer zip as separate prop, (then user can manually adjust zip position, after ues open morph, but, when I change figure shape, the fastner turn as bad shape. (there is no rigidity map)
I like those clothings, which can be separate easy if I need ,then often request
"please show mesh line in product page, as wire shaded, and clear show which part are separated or not"
then we can buy what we need only. (It is not matter, how it is dificult to color weight map etc,, as customer I hope to make it open, then at least clear see mesh untill I buy them)
I talked things over with the person I was making the picture for, and we worked out a design where I don't need the coat opened. Thanks for trying to help, everyone!
