Public Pool - It's a Trap!

Was looking at the new Public Pool.....it looks lovely.....but there is no way out.  It's a TRAP!

No doors or hallways leading in or out....*sigh*....I guess I'll have to pass on it.  It's a shame, it's otherwise a lovely set.

It could be used as a mermaid prison. Though the cells look a bit small and uncomfortable.

Well, foo.  I really liked the look/design of it too.

Of course, it's not the first building like that.  I've also noticed a dearth of doors that could lead to public rest rooms - or even kitchens, storage, and offices - in restauraunts and bar sets.  I don't need these extra rooms to actually *be* there, mind, just more doors than the ones to enter the place.

DaWaterRat, That's the way I feel too.....It's nice if they have those rooms there (like a basic restroom or locker-room, or kitchen, or whatever) but the doorway/door/hallway should be there.  That way, even if the room isn't, you can kitbash a room in if you need it.

Those poor swimmers in the promos are going to be awfuly upset when they get hungry and try to head out......

Perhaps there's an underwater tunnel.  The one they let the sharks in with. devil

How did they get in in the first place? Maybe one of the changing cubicles is a matter transporter.

I too have passed on sets for the lack of any means to enter or leave.

I wasn't fond of the stainglass. It doesn't look real to me

Move the translate slider along the X, Y, or Z axis.  And they just ghost through the walls. surprise

I guess I could always use doors from another set and put them flush with a wall.  As long as it stays closed.

you could probably lie and pretend one of these doors is the exit/entrance

It is up in the What's Hot list, so some people must like it - unless there will be a rash of returns, but I think probably not. Most renders won't show the whole 360 environment, so you can just assume the door is behind the camera. I didn't buy it, because I have no use for it, but the lack of a door probably wouldn't have deterred me in this case.

"Oops.  Sorry lady.  I didn't mean to open the door while you're changing.  I thought this was an exit."  devil

I can almost smell the chlorine just looking at it. Like barbult, the lack of door would not have been a deal-breaker for me if I'd had need of the set, but I'm a bit baffled as to why you'd go to the trouble of modeling all those details and then neglect something as basic as a door to get in and out.

Perhaps a secret door - you have to find the correct tile and press it and then the hidden door opens up

  • Maybe they drop in through the skylights like in James Bond movies.... Seriously though, while there are no doors there, those two sides up where the stairs lead to the changing rooms look like they could be used as entrances without too much difficulty.

I think it's an easier problem to overcome than the more typical 'people in skintight sleeves with no cuff fastening that it would have been impossible to get a hand through' one :)

Admittedly lack of doors isn't quite a dealbreaker, but it does put things lower on the list.  Especially peices like this that I don't actively need for anything.  I'm less likely to try to find a reason to need it. :)

No I don't think it's big deal either, unless you actually need a scene where someone goes in or out of the entrance.

I haven't seen the entire set but it would be easy to just model another set of closed doors and bash them into a blank wall somewhere, as long as you don't need the door to open you could even model it out of simple primatives in Daz Studio without having to have Hexagon or another modeller.

It doesn't have a bathroom either.... unless you count the pool cheeky

Or, if there's enough polys, you could use geometry editor to cut a hole in the wall and place a textured primitive plane (or cube flattened down and stretched out) in it's place for a door that you could open

Yeah, I know it's possible to edit it (opacity map on the wall, add a door object from elsewhere, add a corridor behind...)   but it's a lot more work to do after-the-fact, especially to match the existing motif.

For me, that means it goes on the wishlist until it's got a bigger discount.  If it had existing doors/exits it would have probably been an instant buy.

Nor a shower to rinse off the chlorinated water from hair and skin before dressing.

I can always use "changing areas" which can be used for gyms and other sports facilities too.

I'm still hoping the PA sees this and updates the product.  I know it's a longshot, but it would make the product a lot more viable (at least in my opinion.)

Yeah, it looks nice at first, but even before the missing door, there are a lot of little figgly things that really bother me about it, like the unsafe placement and design of the hi-dive board, the lack of any kind of a lifeguard chair, equipment, depth markings or any kind of underwater lighting system and the really odd idea of putting the changing rooms at the top of not one, not two but three flights of presumbly wet concrete stairs without any kind of handrail.  If it's not a trap, at the very least it's a pool that would never pass any safety inspection.  Fortunately, there are a lot of other pools out there that work perfectly well in Iray.

I think it's inspired by Victorian designs - I thought it was going to be the Manchester Victoria baths, which has recently been in the news as they try to rstore it, but although there are some similarities it isn't very close.

It looks like a very cool scene backdrop. Definitely on my wishlist. Just don't need a pool at the moment. I still haven't used my houseboat or my yacht!

It's a very nice looking set...

I suppose the lack of entry could probably be easily fixed by adding a false facade with doors to the area at the top of the stairs... That would be a good item for the PA to add as an update item or offer as a freebie add on.

But it's kind of an odd detail to omit.

Unless Richard is right and those are dressing transporters.
