This will be very funny for about the first 17 minutes. indecision   I'm sorry but I've found anything Seth McFarlane does, funny.   But only in small doses.  Much like Robbin Williams, Gene Wilder and Seth Rogen.  Already this preview is dragging a bit too long.  But I'm sure it will be very popular.

Like it in concept...but I gotta agree with leathergryphon...Seth McFarlane just is not funny to me, and moreso when he tries acting

If it is wrong, then I too want to be wrong.

It looks like it may have expensive production values so I doubt it will make it past season one particularly on network TV.

Trailers tend to show some of the good bits, right?  To try and hook interest?  Oh dear, if those were the good bits ... cheeky

Doesn't look as good as Galaxy Quest, but still looks probably ok and definitely better than the standard Trek shows.  Seems watchable and possibly even fun, though I prefer hardcore sci-fi, of which thank goodness there is 'The Expanse' to finally fill the void after all this time since Serenity came out.  Anyway, I'm down to give this one a try, could be fun.

I was going to say Galaxy quest nailed the Star Trek parody genere and this looks like a sad milking of it maybe with better sets and effects but the acting (in the trailer at least)was sitcom irritating.

I want to like this, and in concept I do.

But it looks like it should be a half-hour sitcom, rather than an hour long.  And if it's supposed to be a dramedey, I'm not seeing much of the Drama.

And there's room in my Sci-Fi heart for Firefly, Star Trek, and Star Wars all at the same time... ;)

The bit about the alien race of all men and peeing confirmed to me that this would be the same subterranean height of Macfarland's humor that he's known for.

Will wait to see if the reviews are much different than expected.

Hmmm, I thought that I'd be the lone voice of dissention.  It's reassuring to see that I'm not the only one to think McFarlane has outlived his bawdy, ribald comedy.  Perhaps there's hope for the human race yet. surprise

I have a lot of misgivings about it – how long can the basic joke remain funny? – but still more interested than in Star Trek: DIscovery.

The only way I see this going past episode six is if all the episodes for the first season are finished before the first one airs. If the trailer has the high pints of the first episode - then there aren't any; I came up with a grin at the marble spit and it went downhill from there.

Seems like the recent Star Trek movies now are only about massive destruction.  Someday are we going to see "Star Trek: The Final Dimension" which starts with a 10 minute buildup to a Universe destroying bomb exploding and the special effects lasting for 90 more minutes?   Cool!  A super collosal black hole sucks up the entire universe and out pops a yellow submarine. devil

Fox has a long history of cancelling really great shows WAY too early. So I wouldn't hold my breath for it. It will probably be on just long enough for people to fall in love with it then they'll yank it and laugh at the tears. cheeky They live off of nerd tears. They were well sustained over mine for Firefly, Terra Nova, The Sarah Conner Chronicles, Dollhouse, etc.

  • Sorry to necro but found the first episode for free on amazon.  Interesting though humor is a bit off.

    I've watched all three eps.

It's restrained for McFarlane... so take that as you will.  It struck me as the edited for television accout of someone's TNG-era Star Trek RPG campaign.

I had no expectations of this as I'm not really a fan of his. I find him kind of funny on talk shows when he does his silly voices but that's about it. However, the Orville is actually good. The 3rd episode could have literally been a Star Trek episode from the TNG era.

Oh, I'm enjoying it.  Which, considering I don't like McFarlane's usual brand of low-brow humor, is really surprising.  The RPG campaign is just because it isn't as "idealized" as the Rodenberry era, while still being comparatively light.

And I completely agree about Ep 3.  It was the most Trek-like so far.

Thing I like most about McFarlane is that he's actually a pretty good singer (I liked him as Mikey in Sing).

He lacks the 'stamina' and consistency to be a high end professional singer, but he comes pretty close!

I just watched episodes 1 and 2 - will catch the next one tomorrow.

    I rather enjoyed them.

  • Watched the first three episodes last night, and I gotta say I was surprised!  I was expecting something along the lines of Family Guy In Space, but surprisingly, Orville isn't that.  Especially the third episode, which tackled a pretty heavy subject matter without being too irreverant or childish.

I'm liking how the realistic the characters are being portrayed.  Already these seem like real people, with realistic issues.  Captain Mercer having to work with his Ex-wife, Lt. Kitan and her inexperience, Bortus' family issues - these aren't perfect people, and that makes them more relateable.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of the show.

  • When is it on?  What night?  What time?
