Looking for smoke trails

I have tried searching using keywords without success. I am trying to create a military scene with a missile and smoke trail.  Any direction would be very appreciated.

If you like postwork: Ron's Brushes has many nice smoke collections. Jepe's Z-Bundles contain a lot of interesting and dramatic smoke trails.

I susepct it is over at Hivewire now, but Nerd3D did something that could help out there

    Yeah, I would consider postwork.

And you can also generate some amazing smoke and flames in Blender relatively quickly. If you're doing missle trails you'd probably need flames coming out as well as smoke, and Blender can do some amazing stuf in that regard. In fact the Blender guru guy did a tutorial years ago on making a really cool flamethrower. Though I think the results you can obtain now are even better with the latest versions.

Here's a link to the tutorial. Keep in mind that smoke and flames are pretty much the same thing with different shaders, so what you see in the tutorial can very quickly become a combination of smoke and flame with slight tweaks. I think there are also tutorials out there for specifically what you're looking for

Oh, and here's a more up-to-date tutorial on smoke and flames:

If it was me, I'd look at building the rocket in Blender and doing the image/animation for the smoke and fire trail there, then maybe composite any DAZ character renders on top of that.

Here's a quick (maybe 5 minutes of work) simulation of rocket exhaust I just did in Blender. Keep in mind I never applied materials, this is just the raw 3D preview. It's basically just add a cube, add a circle, select circle as source of fire/smoke and set direction of flow, and select cube as container (aka, "domain"), press play and you have it. And one single slider varies how much smoke and how much flame. Pretty awesome.

The next step would be to refine the materials for the smoke and flame, but that's pretty straight forward.

That's incredibly cool, any way to set up the materials for Iray?

    Okay, now we're talking....

I added some materials and made the smoke high resolution and some more tweaks...

Still just a realtime 3D View preview, but you get the idea.

If you just want static trails, there's some on sharecg

There are also some smoke brushes for photoshop there too but I don't know how good they are.

Hello!  I have a couple of products that have pieces suitable for use as missile trails:

^This comes with a poseable contrail - but it's pre-Iray so you'd need to adjust the surfaces if you're using that instead of 3DL.
