Just a few questions
1. (most important to me) whats the point in creating a bangin outfit for anyting if you don't put in a template?? some people enjoy adding special details to things, I personally dont want to go make a template for an outfit when its just so easy for the person or persons making the dang thing to save one out as they make it, its irritating to buy some outfit saying "omg I want to texture that and add pretty things to it!!!" then buy it for $13.00 to $25.00 of hard earned money just to find out it doesnt have a template, then you go about the HIGHLY IRRITATING!! job of having to make a template for it!!!! when, for that kinda money, should have one with it!
2. hard coded texture? really? if I want to make something silk that has a wool texture hard coded in it and it can't be done, I feel that I've wasted my money.
3.yes the new MR iRay shaders are spectacular, and I love to use them, but not on every dang thing, I love to add borders as edges and/or other pretty stuff here and there, *now that I've caught up* and you can't do that unless you jump thru ten thousand hoops and overlays, I'd like to do it while I'm working on the outfit/shoes/character skin, and you can, as long as you use an overlay or L.I.E. or or or (know what I mean??) some/most are complaining about it and NO ONE is listening
I guess the most I'm making a fuss about is the templates, I mean c'mone, I'm spending money...give me a damn template to work with

Templates should be available, for most items, on the Product Library page. In some cases templates don't make sense (mainly props), and in some cases where there are versions of the same outfit for different generations, the templates may be with the older version only. If theya re missing please open a Technical Support ticket.
I haven't a clue what you mean in 2), and I'm not much clearer on 3).
midnight swing dress and shoes did NOT come with, several things I've bought by a certain person *I like a fart in the wind* forgot to look to see if that persons name was on the product, in my excitment I'll work it out tho richard, thank you for the info tho
hard coded texture is just what it is, you can't change horse poop into silk worms no matter how hard you try, its there and there is no changing it
if being forced to use *in cases of no template* MR iray shaders to texture with you dont have a choice of embelishments unless you conform, I'm not a conformist
FWIW, I've checked several outfits from both of Midnight Swing PA's and they all show templates in my product library.
#2 Like Richard, I'm not sure what you mean because as far as I know (with my library of over 3,000 items) there has not been a single item that couldn't be re-textured if I wanted to.
#3 Again if I'm understanding you correctly, nothing says you have to use a shader. I'm pretty sure Daz has a built-in way to create templates from items (I think it's something along the lines of viewing the UV layout, then taking a screen grab or saving it out as an image or something like that) or there's plenty of free and paid for UV unwrappers to save templates from. Or you can just do what I do and open the texture file, edit that and save it with a new name (It also gives a good starting point so the new texture doesn't have to be created completely from scratch)
1. Templates are in your Product Library page as Richard said.
2. I believe there is a grey clay preset, use it to override iray. If there isn't, use any old 3delight-textured object deleted any texture in surface tab and save this plane untextured preset to use for override Iray type surface. There are two render engines, if you don't want Iray your only alternative is 3delight.
3. With 3delight you have options to add layers easyly:
a. L.I.E layers.
b. Photoshop textures files. You can use photoshop aside daz studio load a *.psd image in the surface and add layers in photoshop to the used *.psd, save in photoshop, refresh in DS4 and see the change.
I would want to include some image to explain but I get a "You don't not have permission to upload files" message when try to upload an image.
I have come across things where you couldn't change the texture. No matter what you did on the surfaces tab, it kept what it had. They were all spaceships that I had picked up at ShareCG though, not here. And IIRC they were in a strange format.
