Daz studio and windows 10 not compatible?

DkgooseDkgoose Posts: 1,451

Hey guys so I just updated my pic from windows 8 to windows 10 and sadly daz studio doesn't open anymore it just gives an error that OpenGL 1.3 is required but I ran it on windows 8 just fine so that can't be the reason. I installed all the new drivers for the motherboard and video cards but still no luck, not sure whether to uninstall studio and then reinstall or just go back to windows 8

That's weird - I have Windows 10 and Daz Studio runs fine. I also have the latest version of Daz Studio, so maybe that makes a difference?

I do too :( if I roll back to windows 8 it works great but in windows 10 it's a no go

The video card drivers that come with WIndows aren't always very good.  See if you can update the driver on the card manufacturer's site.

I downloaded and installed the nvidia drivers for my video card

  • Never had an issue with Win 10. Sounds like a Studio problem. I'm guessing you're not running 4.9?

Nope I am running the most up to date that wa released with Genesis 8

I have vague memories about there being a problem with DS caused by Windows and Nvida having a video driver competition (Windows would read Nvidia's driver as out of date and install a new one, then the Nvidia card would do the same, then Windows, etc. etc. ad nausium) but I may not be remembering it right, and as I never got around to updating to Windows 10, I don't remember what the solution was or if I even saw it.

Well I'm gonna try upgrading my bios so I'll se if that will work lol

    My recomendation.

    1. Download the newest Nvidia drivers
    2. Disconnect from the internet
    3. Uninstall your graphics driver
    4. Restart your computer and verify that the device manager shows a generic graphics driver
    5. install the Nvidia driver that you downloaded in step 1
    6. verify that Daz Studio works
    7. reconnect to the internet

A clean install will be your best bet.

...this is why I rejected the "free upgrade" two years ago.  Early on there were a number of issues that revolved around this particular situation where W10 replaced perfectly good Nvidia drivers with flawed ones that caused a variety of instabilities.

I use it on both my machines

If I can't get it going a clean install is probably what I'll do but it won't be anytime soon, I don't have actual internet just a straight talk mobile hotspot that I don't always have data for my phone is my internet but I can't tether sadly, I guess worse case scenario is reverting back to windows 8 again and staying there longer

...I'm stilll runing with W7 and no issues.

I still use Windows 8 and don't intend to upgrade any time soon ;). No problems here :P

Here are the steps for turning off windows update's automatic driver downloads and installation.

    1. Open your windows explorer (The folder icon on the task bar)
    2. Right clock on "This PC" and select "Properties"
    3. On the left sidebar select "Advanced system settings"
    4. Select the "Hardware" tab
    5. Select the "Device Installation Settings" button
    6. Select the "No (your device might not work as expected)" radio button
    7. Select "Save Changes"
    8. Select "OK"

Now you will not ever need to worry about Windows 10 overwriting your perfectly good Nvidia drivers with a crappy version that's not Iray compatible. (Windows 8 should have very similar steps)

..the nice thing with W7 and 8.1 was you could simply select the option to download and install updates manually which is not allowed with any edition of W10 (except Enterprise).

The problem is the Open GL drivers, not the Nvidia drivers. These are critical to the runnng of DAZ Studio.  If you have an old motherboard there can be problems updating to Windows 10 since it can't find an up to date Open GL driver that works with both W10 and the motherboard.

The adage "if it works, don't fix it" applies here.  Only update to Windows 10 if it has a feature you can't do without.  Otherwise, stay with Windows 7/8 until Microsoft stops supporting them.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

I've had this problem a couple of times after updating the NVidia drivers but a reboot and/or a reinstallation of the drivers have always fixed it. 7-8 year Old Asrock P5B-DE board.

My workstation is Win7pro 64bit and they can take it from me when they pry it from my cold dead hard drive. I have had SSD's go sideways on me as well so they are a no go from me also!!!!!! angry

OpenGL support is part of the driver.

You say video cards - if you have a GPU on the motherboard that may not be providing adequate OpenGL support, in which case you need to make sure DS is set to use the nVidia card.

The problem is that while OpenGL is part of your GPU driver, the Windows Update version of the drivers have OpenGL supoport either removed of disabled.  Very bad for anyone who does anything other than directX based tasks.

@dkgoose : What "Video Cards" are you running?

    Try something like http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

It's best to use it in safe mode as it is more certain to strip all the crap left over from previous installs.

Daz Studio worked well with windows 10, until I installed the creators update. Now I have had to run it in compatibility mode as well as launch it directly from the program files directory.

  • DkgooseDkgoose Posts: 1,451

I think part of my problem seems to be the nvidia driver won't install or if it does it's reporting an error so is getting disabled, I tried installing the intel driver as well but the computer crashes to the blue screen in the middle of install, so I think I'm just gonna go back to windows 8 and delete a lot of unused stuff that's been horded and then do a clean install as suggested, or maybe just get another hard drive to install windows 10 on

That is very strange that happening, the only reason I say that is I have also installed the Creators update and Studio works perfectly fine, when 3DL isn't having a temper tantrum and crashing that is..

Uninstalling and reinstalling DS would be another step in the process.  My mother's computer has an issue with sound online after upgrading from 8 to 10 but with a quick uninstall and reinstall of the browser, she was set.

My copy of Win10 was a clean install and not an update.  As a result, I have had no issue running old software that I still needed, including Paint Shop Pro 9 which others have stated is not working for them after they upgraded from Win8 to Win10.  Studio has not run perfectly but 99% of the time is worked as it should on Windows 10 through all the updates.

I usually do a clean install but I have so little hard drive space left to back stuff up I decided to just upgrade, but since a lot of the files are really old and I don't even remember what most of the stuff is I'll just clean up the clutter, sadly I'm a hoarder when it comes to stuff on the hard drives, I just will have to watch what I delete of daz installers because I don't know what is now in install manager and what isn't
