New (Better) computer renders slower than old one.

Hi,

I've recently upgraded to a new computer but find that my renders are actually overall slower than the last.

From what I can tell, my last one was nearly impossible to use during a render, while my new one can run other programs just fine during it. Seems like it isn't the daz program to it's full potential maybe?

I have a 1080 ti, windows 10 (upgraded from 7), 32gb of ram (same as before)

Any idea of what I could do?

Are they using the same render settings? If you are in Iray the 1080 should be handling most scenes, without usign the CPU - you can enable the CPU in the Advanced tab of render Settings but it should make little difference.

I believe they are. I redownloaded Daz 4.8 (4.9 gives some characters a weird gray kind of skin look). I don't really remember ever changing much of the render settings before.

I mainly just compared the render time of both at the same time and found that my old computer to finish a bit faster.

Worth checking that your nvidia drivers are up to date and maybe also worth checking the opitex advanced acceleration option in the advanced section of the render settings.

The 1080TI will not work with 4.8 - Pascal support was added in a version of  4.9 although I don't remember which one.

If you are rendering in 4.8 then all your renders will be on CPU and therefore slower

    Ah i see! Thanks.

Would love to use 4.9, but characters like victoria 7 and Michael 7 have weird "gray" tint skin. Is there any way to fix this? Reason why I use 4.8. It doesn't affect it.

I can't say I have ever noticed these characters looking gray,  orange is usually my problem :)

V7 & M7 have 2 preset skins - Make sure that you are not using the one called Iray Legacy (thats for 4.8 only so would explain why your scene render looks better to you from your old PC) -

Both V7 & M7 should load with the correct settings for 4.9.

If that doesn't improve things then perhaps post images of what you get & what you want to get as that will help find the solution

I don't see anything about iray legacy? I selected a new Victoria 7 character and it loads in with it rendered with the gray tint. So I must be missing something.

Here is a picture comparing the two. Left shows a different color skin. Same happens with michael 7.

Image removed - please use a clothed figure or crop the image to show only the head and shoulders.

    Sorry, here is a fix.

Feels like lighting is different as well. I use the dome lighting and just rotate it if needed.

4.9 seems to act differently and the character doesn't get enough light with default settings.

When I test this &use Legacy Mats,  V7 looks grey -  The V7 in red is as she loads in 4.9  (This is with the default settings with dome rotated to 60)

Is it possible you do not have the latest version of V7 Installed - As you can hopefully see on the screen shot my V7 has 2 sets of Mats

That was it. I needed to update my characters. The skin looks great in 4.9 now.

Thank you very much! I've been holding off on updating because of this version reason. So glad to get it fixed. Thanks!
