Blue Planet- who owns this?

Best Seller means a bunch of us got it!

Again, is this EARTH or ANY blue planet?

I asked before, but no one who owned it ever chimed in......

Can I change the color of the planet, clouds or any of those separate layers?

Generally, can we do this on our own with Materials or Shaders?

I'd like this to be my defacto close orbit foundation, but only if it can be anyplanet, Galaxy.

It's very specific to Earth-like, changing it would be hard. Also it's a 3DL product and while you CAN convert it to Iray, it's a bit tricky (I've done it, but it's tricky)

The key thing is to just not bother with the ubervolume, which is there to create atmosphere. It just... won't work well in Iray. There IS a really nifty thing -- so in the background is an arch or disk or something that grades from translucent to completely transparent. That creates the effect of the atmosphere grading into space.

One thing you'll find in Iray is that while the foundation of it is physically realistic, that can be a trap and you should totally ignore realism when it more easily creates the effect you want. I bring that up because there are a bunch of products using old school Billboard techniques in Iray, and some folks think that's 'cheating'. Like we're somehow being graded on purity points or something.

Billboard is just a plane with an image on it... but people have really convincing clouds, flames, fog, godrays, etc using it, and it can create great effects that are otherwise next to (or flat-out) impossible to do in Iray.

I bring all of THAT up because the atmosphere fading into space effect is something someone might get all worked up trying to simulate, and, well, Iray just doesn't do that and even if it did it would take days to render on most machines.

    Instead, FAKE IT

Thank you. I'll be sticking to post then.

I battled the 3Delight engine in my last work(s) and it wasn't fun.

The SPEED was awesome. I even liked how it drew in the render from top to bottom like bricks, but too many things looks weird and flat.

And I can't go through 100s of surfaces and items trying to do fixes.

Not enough skill or time for that.

Damn it. Good bye big blue.

3dl is capable of a lot of amazing stuff, and the ability to go from highly simplified lighting/shading to highly photorealistic stuff is very cool.

You can make highly photorealistic stuff in 3dl! But it takes a fair amount of skill to do so, and the speed advantage goes away (since you get closer and closer to doing the same calculations Iray is doing)

3dl also has some amazing weird effects Iray can't do, and handles displacement far better.

The problem is that Daz' implementation of 3dl is a junk pile; a slew of different era approaches and styles all jumbled together with little rhyme or reason, and little documentation. There are all sorts of quirks to navigate, and you can easily end up with renders that hang or take forever.

The folks who still do 3dl in Daz, many of them code their own lights and shaders to get things working right.

It's a shame, because 3dl is capable of a LOT, but, imo, just isn't worth the time and energy in Daz.
