Genesis 8 and Daz Studio 4.8x

I like the latest Daz Studio 4.8x. I do not want to switch to 4.9. Can Genesis 8 be used in version 4.8? At first it didn't show up in DIM, but now it does. I know Iray settings in 4.9 are different from 4.8x.

No it can not and it has to be the latest DS as well !
I don't see any reasons why you hate it. The latest one is faster iRay rendering significantly.
It should work in the 4,9 Beta. I'm using 4.8 and 4.9 Beta side by side, as most of my stuff does not play nice with 4.9 and I prefer 4.8 to 4.9, and the Beta solution is "best of both worlds".
EDIT: G8 can be loaded, clothed and posed in 4.8 just fine. it has the usual problems with "lobster skin" that all iray skins created for G3 and above have, but otherwise, it works fine.
May I ask why not?
Clearly Iray problem ... but i don't like Iray renders with people in and use 3Delight. So ... what about Genesis 8 won't work aside from Iray materials (and the powerpose expression thingy)? Has there been some actual change to the duf/dsf file format? The joint system? Anything?
There are features that were specifically added to Daz Studio to make Genesis 8 possible. A few deal specifically with Genedis 8 loading/saving correctly.

I tried G8 with DS 4.6 (!), and it works. I didn't get the G2M/G3M etc. morphs (no 'Hidden' in my parameter tab), but everything else is quite fine. I like the base figure!
As what i said at the first DS 4.9 release - that I will not upgrade from 4.8 until and unless DAZ have formally abandoned content encryption and produced a new version of DS without content encryption/decrytion modules - reamins and will remain true, I have not been reaading release notes if it doesn't appear that there's anything about abandoning content encryption in them.
Ah well. As (i) there has been and still is in todays releases something about iray renders with people in alongside props and in environments I really don't like (and I mean other people's renders, like in the product promos and galleries) so I still use 3Delight; and (ii) G8F has exactly the same terrible body mesh topology as G3F, no edgeloops defining the outtlines of the main muscle groups, tendons etc, so DAZ and PAs have no common edges to go buy and all low BMI body detailing morphs and normal maps contradict each other and mess up morph mixing so i can't get the bodies I want for my characters; well - this makes it simple. I leave G8 stuff alone, and as I've got most everything I want created up to now, I just stop buying stuff. PAs and DAZ have already missed out on quite a few hundred dollars of my money over the last year and a half for products I'd have bought if they'd included 3DL materials, but they didn't so I didn't. Heigh Ho.

Had a whip through the changelog and didn't see anything. must have missed whatever it was.
But ...
Started DS 4.8, navigated in the contnent library list view to Genesis 8 Female and clicked to load.
(i) DS Error message came up saying this version of DS couldn't load this content, needed a minimum DS 4.9,something.111
(ii) DS 4.8, despite that message, then loaded Genesis 8 female anyway.
As far as I can see it's fine. It loaded despite the error message. No error messages in the log at all (not even the one that came up in the error message box). Has all the parts. Poses OK as far as i've gone. JCMs like the flexion JCMS all applying. (Note 1). Material presets apply fine.
Clearly the default new Iray materials on it would look bad if I used them ... but i wouldn't use them anyway. As mentioned I use 3Delight, but even if i didn't, got plenty of DS 4.8 Iray materials I could plaster over the top, just keep the maps.
is this 'Won't work in 4.8' and the error message saying it won't load (even though it then does) a DAZ con to try to lever people like me into giving up our objections that keep us on 4.8?
DAZ, if you want me to be tempted to abandon my principles an upgrade to 4.9 without you officially ending all encrypted content first, you would need to have done two things. BOTH of them. (1) Actually require 4.9 for Genesis 8; but also (2) have reworked the main body parts mesh topology to return edgeloops outlining the mian muscle groups, tendons and 'visible' bones (as were on all previous figures other than V1, V2 and original Aiko). Better bending than G2F, but a returned ability to mix morphs to create the kind of (real world base) physiques I want - impossible on G3F as most of the relevant morphs, SD and HD, and normal maps don't align with each other or JCMs or other morphs creating a mess when trying to belnd for the body definition I'm after - would maybe have given me a serious temptaion to give up on my principles. Keeping this for me very big mistake from G3F - no temptation at all. (And it means I'm going to see endless unreaistic bodies in renders -sigh,)

Linking the flex bicep on arm bend JCM to the flex on arm twist JCM so the bicep only bulges when the forearm is also twisted as well as bent is all kinds of wrong. Somebody at DAZ needs to look at someone else's arm and bicep while they bend the forearm and then twist the forearm this way and tht. Eitehr that or somebody at DAZ messed up the ERC. If I was going to use this figure First thing I'd do is edit the bicep flex ERC.
There are features which will not work in versions before 4.9.4.111. She will load in an older version to the extent that the features she uses are supported. If you find that some features are not working correctly, that is because you are using a version which doesn't support them. I still have DS4.8 as the general release and 4.9.4.117 as the public beta -- G8F does not load correctly in 4.8, so I use the public beta for her.

It seems to much problem to load old content into 4.9, so I want 4.8x

What content isn't loading in 4.9.4?
There isn't any problem loading old content into 4.9. There are problems getting some V4 content to work on Genesis 8.
As far as the people complaining about encrypted content, there is also nothing in Version 4.9 that requires you to use encrypted content. The amount of "Encrypted Only" content in the store in minimal and has seemd to vanish over the last several months.
