Iray preview forces CPU to render instead of GPU

Anyone else have this happen? I like to work in Iray preview when I can. I have three 1080ti's, so everything renders fairly quickly. However, when I go to render, oftentimes (not always) it renders with the CPU instead of the GPU.

I have to exit out of DAZ and reload the file in order for it to render with the GPU at the full resolution.

I second that. Recently this happened to me few times. Seems to be pretty random...

Yeah! At first I thought it was because it was trying to load the textures, etc. onto the GPU twice and eating up the memory. But I have 11 GB, and none of the scenes I'm trying to render are even above 3 GB.

Yes, recently, I have had it happen a couple of times on a 980ti.

Was using 4.9.3 beta. Just trying 4.9.4 so will see how that goes.

Explains why I can manipulate figures while preview is fully active on the 10 core machine but cannot really on my 980M ROG laptop

You could got to help->troublshooting->view log file and check if there is a reason specified for not using GPU.

So, THAT's what causes this!? I only use Iray viewport for setting the "sun" position. Usually this happens on a mesh-intensive image, but today it happened on a character only one. The cure was shut down and reload the image.

Actually it goes into CPU mode on my 980 ROG laptop and GPU on the new 1080ti rig
