Bummer, I grew up on him and Batman. Even net him when I was a kid at a show. At least he was able to bounce back from being typecast and had his family.
He did outlast the joker, the riddler and the penguin.
R.I.P.
Aww, sorry to hear it. Not surprised. He did live to be a ripe old age, but still sad to see him go. We've lost a lot of greats in the past year or so.
Awww, no more Mayor West!
R.I.P. Adam West. You brought many a smile to this face!
He died happy, surrounded by his family, and a beloved icon.
88, that's a good run.
2017 hasn't been quite as horrific with celebrity deaths as 2016. So far.
I hadn't realised how relatively few episodes were made of Batman; a little went a very long way
Condolences to his familyand friends.
Who remembers him in "Robinson Crusoe on Mars"? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058530/
Color TV was still very new and a lot of the attraction to the TV Batman series was the vivid colors.
(although I remember seeing my first color TV in the late '50s. Big wooden cabinet, little round color screen
)
Fond memories..
I never could quite remember the words of the theme tune though.
It had words?
Sure, here they are:
Batman.... Batman.... Batman.... Batman...
Na na na na na na NUH!
Batman!
RIP Mr. West.
Loved that show so much as a kid! RIP
I always thought it was more like
Da da da da, da da da dah!
Indeed. He will alwasy be "my" Batman.
...holy obituary, yet another icon of my youth gone.
Yeah, many memories.
I actually saw the feature film on the big screen when I was a kid. Ahh never know when you need that "Shark Repellent Bat Spray!"
Then there there were those on screen comic book sound effects during fights.
Also loved it when he and Robin would be "scaling" a wall with their "Bat Rope" (using the old of tilting the camera angle trick) and some celebrity would pop his or her head out a window for a moment.
So sad, loved the Batman
West also was in an interesting episode of the animated Batman series of the '90s, playing an actor who had once been a batmanlike TV hero, The Grey Ghost; but who got few roles after that. We learn that this was an inspiration for Batman. The casting of West was a stroke of genius.
Somewhere on YouTube, you can find the screentests with West/Ward, and with Lyle Waggoner and some other young Robin actor. They picked right; West and Ward acted as if they were in on the joke, while still playing it straight. Waggoner did not seem to get it.
