Changing Drives

The models are taking up a lot of space on my main hard drive and I want to move them over to an external hard drive. If I do this, how can I make the program DAZ Studio access the external hard drive's folders for models instead of checking my computer's internal hard drive?

Right click on the "Content Library" tab and select "Content Directory Manager...". Then you can redesignate where the program will look to load your stuff. I Keep all of my content, both DS and Poser formats, on a 4TB external drive. The Poser items are in a Content" directory, and the DS items are in a directory called "MY DAZ"..

Do you happen to know if it would it be safe to cut & paste the files into my external hard drive, or is it safer to install them directly to the folder from DAZ Install Manager?

Initially, you can copy the folders on drive C: that have your DS and Poser items to your hard drive. Then once everything has been copied over, redesignate in DS "Content Directory Manager" where your new content directories are located. From then on you can install everything directly to your external drive. How you handle all of the content that's still on drive C: will be up to you. Whether to save somewhere for archival/backup purposes, or to outright delete is the age old question.

If you saved the zips (or have a fast unlimited internet connection), then uninstalling and reinstalling with DIM has the advantage that DIM will be able to update or uninstall products from the new drive.  The other option is to go to DIM's ManifestFiles folder and edit the files with a text editor that can do global changes on multiple files so that DIM will think it installed them to the new location.

  • Thanks for all of the help! Files moved successfully. :)
